Survivorman is back

He'll be using alot more knife/axe action this season

It looks like on the current episodes set in Norway, he is using his Helle knife.

Chad

Caught that. Never mentioned that it was his design, but called it a beautiful knife in one scene, and commented on how sharp it was in another.

I've been watching his shows, I like 'em. Alot more 'down to earth' than some others, and more realistic. The one I saw last was a car that had gotten stuck in a remote snow area. He was trying to decide weather to leave the security of the car in very unpleasant weather. Totally plausible. IIRC, not to long ago a couple/family followed their GPS off the hard top and got stranded in similar conditions, and the man ultimately perished. Lots of good tips/pointers. And 10 days is alot more informative than just 5. With water and an even a few bites of food, you can struggle through most 5 day events, especially if you know its going to end in 5 days. 10 is alot more taxing...

Tho I get the impression he is ever completely alone or at least too far from help. Some of the arial shots/fly overs lead me to believe that back up knows exactly where he is and/or not too far away. But still, he's doing good stuff.

I do/did also enjoy Dual Survival and Man vs. Wild. Again, the premis of trying to share good pointers is there, and the info is there, regardless of what may or may not happen off camera. I do seem to recall an episode of Dual where they were getting ready to put down for the night in a tree in an area where big cats were lurking...it cut straight to dawn. I'm guessing they didn't spend too much time in the tree that night. But overall, more entertaining for me than alot of shows out there.

And for those that don't have a TV, you might look for on-line episodes...the webcites might have 'em.

The aerial shots could have been done when he first got there or afterwards. He has a crew that comes and cleans up the messes he makes.

I too liked how he didn't say it was his knife but seemed to like it. It made me glad that I spent the money to get one. :)

He always has a crew a few miles away. He states this in several of the older episodes.

So far, so good, though. Good episodes thus far.

He might require a supporting crew not too far away mandated by the insurance companies. Not only for his personal security but also to protect property, and unaware bystanders.
Just a thought.

He's admitted several times that he has a support crew nearby, and he has a radio and sat. phone to call them.

The first half of the Norway episode that has aired left me scratching my head, how many cases have there been where the people that stayed with the car were found alive, and the ones that didn't found dead? And drinking the beer seemed like a bad choice, always heard alcohol will dehydrate you faster????

And waiting 4 days before even trying to start a fire?? And not using a piece of tire to help get the fire going and burning them as a signal??

The average beer's alcohol content is 3% to 5%. Not really enough to dehydrate you, unless you go on a bender. It can actually be hydrating and somewhat nurishing. C'mon, it's made of water, barley and hops. Wheat or berries, too... If yer a nancy boy.

I think the Norway show is his best yet in terms of a real life situation and the kinds of choices to be made. This is the first show that somehow made you feel like you were also there. I would have also stayed in the car. You never know when a snow plow or snow mobile will come and the weather was miserable.

Survivorman is the best show of this nature. The thing you have to always realize is, he makes most the mistakes he does on purpose, he even said at the start he would do what most people would to prove a point. I wont say he doesnt make mistakes, but usually he does it to show what most people will do or think and why not to do it. I remember the first time my brother saw Survivorman, just so happened to be the one where he was hunting with a buddy. He stated that he used his GPS coming in and left it on so the battery went dead, this was 100% to say this is what might happen to a common man hunting and create the example of getting lost, my brother never seeing the show before instantly started in that he was an idiot to let that happen...I just shook my head and tried to explain it, hes my older brother so he didnt listen and figures Les is hopeless in the woods...He tries to relate it to normal people and doesnt just go in and do everything 100% by the book with no errors as that is not realistic.

They played the Mexico part 1 and 2 back to back, I wonder why they have not shown part 2 of the Norway show...my tivo has been waiting for the new seasons to start up again from the summer break, finally getting stuff to watch again. Dual Survival should be starting up before long as well. I dont record Man vs Wild

They do one part a week. Part 2 of the Norway episode is Sunday. They don't do them back to back normally, it's one part a week. They will play them back to back the week after part 2 is released.

Have you heard his references to Bear Grylls? Lol. In the fist episode he says something along the lines of "Just go with the flow of nature. All of this 'man vs wild' is just ridiculous." And in the second part of episode two he says. "Good thing there's plenty of fresh water around here, other wise I might be reduced to having to drink my own pee. Haha yeah right."

I noticed those and he also mentioned a few times about how you didn't want to be jumping around and other dangerous stuff. It would have been fun to see Les make a seal skin suit and swim in the fiord though. :)
