Survivorman Leatherman?

I watcehd the Geogia Swamp episode again last night and it appears as if the saw I asked about in a previous post was in fact the SAK saw. My bad. -DT

I was noticing the same thing. The camera angle they used made the tree and the saw look a whole lot larger than they were. I thought it was a 12" folding saw and a 6"-8" tree at first glance. I do have a question though. What kind of SAK's have good saws on them and how long are the saws?

I'm not up on all of the SAKs but I've got two Leathermans. The Charge TTi and the Blast. I like the saw on the Blast better because the handle can be folded to about 110 degrees and it then takes a shape similar to that of a small keyhole saw. Very cool. I assume all models with the saw on the inside can do this. On the Charge the saw is accessible from the outside and cannot be configured the same. The Blast is pretty cool for the $50 bucks or so that it costs. Hopefully someone else can chime in on the SAKs.

As far as this goes, I thought I may have caught Les trying to pull one over on us. I should've known better. This guy seems like the real deal. Great shows. -DT

The only multi-tool I have that has a saw on it is the Gerber Suspension. I know a lot of people don't think too highly of the Suspension, but I like it. It has a nice selection of tools, but the saw is too short to really be usable. That is not really a problem because I have never been in a situation where I needed the saw. Other than the saw, the rest of the tools seem to work well for me. When I am camping or hiking (not backpacking), I always have at least a 12" or 14" bolo Tramontina machete, a Mora or two, some sort of heavy duty folder and a folding saw. I have a few SAK's but none that have a saw on them, which is why I was wondering.

he also picks the right tool for the job - he has the swiss tool for the more humid and wet conditions.
