Survivors: other knives you like

OBX, you have a Blackheart?!

That is one company that just seemed so pricey and elite and out of reach. How are the ergonomics? How does it perform? Man, you have a great collection!

Yes I do. It's a really cool knife with killer ergos. It's too tall for my taste. I've had a few offers for it but I just can't bring myself to sell it.

That's where I think I will be at with the NMFSH. I've no doubt it will be a great car-camping type blade, but heavy for prolonged foot travel. I'd really like to see a head to head with a gso 10 and one of Nathan's light choppers. That might be a better comparison since they're lighter blades.

Ya, I'll bet that satin jack is great. I've got too many blades that I want, but someday I'd also like to add a choilless boss jack to the herd.

You might want to consider getting rid of one to get an S Jack. It's my favorite Busse (of the 15 or so) that I have. It's light, crazy tough, great steel, has a choil and is pretty comfortable. It's also .187" thick making it a perfect mid sized survival/camping/utility knife. I think it's better than the RMDs, though I wish it was uncoated.

Here's where it fits in the lineup:

I still like my 5.1 and 7/7 better but the Jack is a close second now that the edge has been reprofiled to cut and carve. It really does sit between the 5.1 and 7/7.

OBX, without having handled it, just going off of pics, the finger grooves and interesting pommel are not encouraging for universal hand sizes and grips, BUT I will take your word for it :)

So, you're kind of my knife role model now. Can you teach me to be like you???

Do you like it better than that badger attack?

YES!!! As cool looking as the BATAC LE is, it's too heavy at 16.3 oz and .25" thick! Also the blade is too tall, that combined with a weight exceeding a pound makes it cumbersome after some time cutting and carving. The other Badger, the SOB, is a good size but gives me a hot spot on my pointer finger. The Jack is the best.

Top down Blackheart Gunner 10 (.21" thick), GSO 4.7 (.175" thick) and the BATAC LE (a whopping .25" thick).

LOL!!! Thanks.....The secret, spend money like an idiot!! So maybe you don't want me to be your role model....I really need to sell a bunch of these knives. To be honest, and I not trying to be a "fan boy", I really do reach for my GSOs before I reach for any other knives.

Anyway.....You really have to handle the gunner 10 to appreciate it. The finger grooves/choils, the canvas micarta and the texturing he uses gives the handle a pretty unique and confident feel. I think it'll be comfortable for medium to XXL hands. But you're right for the price you'd want to know that it fits.

Haha ;)

Ok, your mission if you choose to accept it: before you start selling stuff off, take a picture of ALL your knives.
Your GSO's alone get me all hot and bothered... then little by little and post by post you let it slip that you have amazing taste in knives and a motherload of an arsenal!

LOL & Thanks! It'll have to be next week, when my wife is at work. She'll probably kill me with any number of them if she saw all of them at once!!

Great explanation, and the picture helped immensely. Thank you!

I just added this LT Wright Lagom to the mix.
So simple and so comfortable.

That LTW is pretty slick Standard, how is the sheath retention on that one?
I have a ugly cousin to that knife that I traded for a while back and have used a lot, an Koster kit knife in 3v scandi. Fit and finish is nowhere near anything Guy puts out but it is a carving machine that I can use as a skinner in a pinch. The best part is the high scandi grind acts like an edge guide for ceramic rod touch ups, super easy to do.
The bad part is sheath retention on this one is so, so [kydex sheath] and the lack of a finger guard requires a little faith in my pinky loop.

Oooooooohhhhh...I was looking at that knife and I talked myself out of it until that photo....damn.....your're a BAD influence Std!!!!

I picked up one of LT's Large Northern Hunters a couple weeks ago.

It happened to be too handle thick and heavy for me. I like the blade conceptually, it just didn't have the balance I was after. I'm definitely a fan of LT's work though, and I'll bet that Lagom works great.

The retention is great with this sheath. You almost don't want to push the knife all of the way down because it's a pain to get out.
That Koster looks like a great knife and it's 3v! I wonder if you could find a JRE sheath that'll work for it.

Looks great! Gotta love a big palm swell.
I think Guy really hit it out of the park with the new scale shapes as well.
They really nailed it on this one.
I agree on the new scales also. That new 4.7 is a dream to hold.

Haha! You're welcome!
My friend down the street bought one right after I started talking about them. He used it a bit and bought a Gary Wines so I swooped in on this. It's nice being able to fondle a knife before buying it.

That stinks that it's not what you wanted. That's a nice looking knife.
