So on June 25th, I happen to be browsing Amazon at 2 am (peak hours right?) and noticed some fantastic deals on Cold Steel Tomahawks. Having just bought a Pipe Hawk, I was eager to try out the other models. A retailer by the name of Green Valley Place had the Norse Hawk, Rifleman's Hawk, and Spike Hawk listed for $13-$18 with $2 shipping
I was immediately a bit skeptical because those prices are absolutely unheard of, so I checked their feedback and they have almost 5,000 positive feedback ratings. With my suspicions now assuaged, I pulled the trigger on all three.
Fast forward two days later, and the retailer confirms that my tomahawks have been shipped. Sweet! No tracking number though, which was a bit off-putting but their positive feedback made me ignore that fact. The 'hawks were projected to arrive between June 29th and July 5th, yet they never came. I was going to email them today to ask them where my order was, but I was beaten to it by the retailer.
Here's their story:
Green Valley Place claimed that USPS had just informed them today that the tomahawks had been lost in the mail, and very politely stated that they were issuing a refund immediately. They provided the tracking number (9400110200881408446033 for those who want to check it out) and said that the package was not moving because as they were informed, USPS had lost it. The postage was bought on the 25th of June, while on Amazon the shipping wasn't confirmed until the 27th. They issued the refund immediately because in the email it stated the tomahawks were on backorder from their distributor with no ETA.
Here's what I think happened:
I think someone who works for Green Valley Place accidentally listed the 'hawks at prices that were far too low (the next day they were back up to around $30) and they invented this story about USPS losing the packages to cover their ass. The tracking information only states that the postage was purchased, and not that the packages ever even arrived at the post office. I doubt USPS can lose the package before they even get it in their hands
The story they gave me seems very suspicious.
This is not a forthright condemnation of this retailer, because honestly I might just have been paranoid about this whole affair from the start. What do you guys think, do you think they were lying? Or am I just being paranoid? I would love to hear your input on this.
