sven saw vs sawvivor vs bahco laplander vs silky Its too much! What saw to buy

Enjoy. The most important thing is for you to be satisfied with your choice. Now you just need to find the time to test it and enjoy the outdoors, and maybe share your experience with it.

I find that I don't need a saw all that often, but it's handy to have when I do.
I've long stopped making perfect lengths of wood for a fire. Once the fire is going, I just feed in longer pieces.
That said, I just ordered a Bahco Laplander. :p

I've bent my Laplander a few times, mainly around the tip. Easily straightened but once you bend it, it's there forever. It's a great pack saw but if you plan to replace an axe with a saw, buy one that has some sort of frame that tensions the blade from both ends.

yeah I dunno im really thinking that once I get a fire going I can just feed in larger logs too. Well see Im actually just building my kit right now so Im sure therell be changes. Itd be nice if I could just bring a saw and a medium 5 inch blade. Saw a couple logs, baton to get to the dry kinding, nothing crazy just take small pieces off. then get that going and start feeding logs to the thing. No axe, no hatchet, no large survival knife. Seeing as how Im rolling in Canada though Im thinking this is prolly not an option. Ill try it next time im out- but im bringing the axe or a junglas for sure.

When bushCRAFTING, there's no fault in packing a set of tools. Sure in a minimalist survival situation making the most of A 1 tool will come in handy, but when you're CRAFTING something both an axe and a saw will come in handy. As light as most saws are it makes me wonder why people feel the need to limit themselves to only one or the other. ASharpCanadian epitomizes the 'different strokes for different folks' category-when dealing with cold woods an axe is plumb necessary. That doesn't mean a small light folding saw won't come in handy during different seasons or when used for a specific purpose.

I just purchased a fixed MAECO Silky 210 with large teeth. It doesn't fold, and comes with a clean looking wooden sheath. Applying KISS, the smaller amount of working parts you have, the less room for failure, so adding the weight of a bamboo sheath to eliminate the wear and tear on a folding joint and locking system is worth it. It's the half-way between a minimalist folding saw and a framed camping saw. I think the asking price was 25 dollars.

I have several Fiskars sliding saws and I found they cut really well and are super light weight. I used to have a Laplander but sold it for some unknown reason. But my favorite saw is made by Stihl. It's the model PS 10 Folding Saw. I never see that one discussed but it's a good one!

I've thought of buying of of these for the exact reason of being able to make it a two man job. Did you get the 18 or 24? I had planned on the 24. Once you've actually used it as a two person saw, post back and let us know how it worked.

Woot. My Laplander arrived.
