I hunt pigs with dogs and knives. I had a friend give me the Browning pig hunter when I started. It works well enough, so I never bothered getting a different knife. But I recently saw a Svord deluxe pig sticker that I liked. Anyone used one? Especially for hogs.

Honestly, I think it's just a clever name just because of the balde shape.

Nah--it's a legitimate single edged sticking knife. It's a common traditional meat processing knife pattern.

What's the opinion of Svord? I don't know anything of them.

Svord in general is an alright brand. Their Peasant Knife is pretty popular, but also generally known for being left unfinished, leaving all the small details to the end user. Not sure about the Pig Sticker, but it probably will be a good knife, given a little bit of work on your end.

Heard nothing bad about Svord. I'm a big fan of L6 steel and have been tempted to get one because they use it.

The Svord knives I have sure take fine edges very easily with their convex grind using just sand paper and a strop. Wicked sharp!

Great steel with great edge. Just don't expect anything fancy looking.

Deluxe range- no initial work needed, based on the 6" gen purpose I bought.
Economy range- 5 hrs of sharpening, spine smoothing, handle sanding & wrapping with bicycle handlebar tape based on the Farmers knife I bought.
Go berserk, get the Custom Hog Beater. Might need that handlebar tape or Tentacle Wrap.

With the Sticker/skinner/boner, you won't need a separate butchering knife. This one's next on my list.

I'm a but ignorant on blade shapes. How would that curved combo knife do more than the deluxe pig sticker? They're around the same price, now I'm wondering about which model is best. The deluxe seems almost like a butcher knife blade. The curved blade I'm not even sure how it would work as a sticker. Please elaborate anyone with knowledge.

Sorry for my delay. The SSB is pointed enough to be used for stabbing/sticking, with an angled wrist, & curved enough for basic butchering. It usually doesn't matter if pig hide is punctured, as its more eaten than tanned. SSB's halfway between these 2

Holy Hannah, that should bleed them fast.
Looks like an excellent knife for the job.

As for the sticker/skinner, Im somewhat apprehensive in regards to how a multi-function knife will do for hogs.
Ive no dobt, that itll be fine for skinning. For sticking in a fast and furious hunting situation, Im not so sure, but then I havent tested it, so cant say for sure. Just doesnt look right for sticking IMO. Especially not with a big hog moving around and maybe trying to get at you or the dogs.
Would be nice to hear reports from hunters having used it.

Based on youtube, most wild pigs killed by knives are first incapacitated by dogs. Then it seems 50/50 throat cut or heart stab.
As I said, with an angled wrist the SSB should be a more than adequate stabber/sticker, & an excellent throat cutter.
I hunt rabbits, not pigs, with a Jack Russell, slingshot & at least a 5" fixed, coz I'm sick of pitbulls attacking my JRT.
"I'ts only for gutting rabbits, constable." Yeah. Right.
If I was invited pig hunting, I'd request a spear, & amphetamine to counteract my Chronic Fatigue.

Ohh, Im aware of how one hunt hogs. I hunt them with my Humphrey Bowie and that works perfectly.
Ive never seen anybody cutting the throat of a hog, as thats a little too close to the tusks for comfort.
A stab in the heart area or as down in your neck of the woods, flip it over and then stick it. Either way works.
As for the hog being 'incapacitated' by dogs, thats not the way it works.
Dogs can back a hog into a corner, bite into the ears etc of the hog and try to hold it or distract the hog from the hunter sneaking up on it.
The thing is, you cant really count on the hog being 'incapacitated' let alone held still. Hogs will try to tear lose in some cases.
Personlly, I want a straight stabbing implement and not a tool that curves like that Svord.
But again, havent stuck a hog with that particular knife, only have used my Bowie for sticking hogs and that blade works......and then some!

2.30 neck stab with an even more curved skinner.

You seem intrigued by the SSB. May I suggest; buy it, try it & it would be nice to hear your reports, having used it. If you think its a sticker failure, you've still an excellent skinner/boner.
Svords & Deweys are for farmers, & their sympathisers, who hunt, not for urban collectors.

Nope, not really. I merely expressed my doubt in regards to ergos and usefulness.
I believe, that Ill 'stick' to Bowies, as they work for me for hog sticking, thank you.

I too am very skeptical of do or all tools. I also have never seen anyone cut the throat of a caught hog, it's too close to the tusks and your dogs should have a hold of either ears or snout. So you're too close to your dogs also. If you have good catch dogs, there is very little worry of the hog getting loose. That being said,a straight, sharp, pointed blade is ideal. If you hunt with smaller dogs our more bay/strike dogs,a quick kill is imperative.
