i seen people cut the throat of hogs, just depends on the blade length of the knife, skill of the hunter an how they learn to do it.me i go for the heart shot under the armpit, then cut the jugular to bleed them out before i field dress the hog.i prefer a 6" to 7" blade to hunt with. used an old kabar for years, but now my go to knife is a sissipuukko, but i will be testing the bravo 1.5.

to mailman..its a great blade intended to do what it was designed to do,kill hogs..i seen some pop up once in awhile,,try ebay, good luck..

Don't forget, some folks raise pigs as bona fide livestock! A sticking knife is handy for bleeding them come processing time.

seeing you here FortyTwoBlades reminds me of something.if you want a knife to just kill pigs mailman.there is a f.dick sticker i used one for years just to stick pigs its a great tool teamed up with the sheep skinner an master grip boning knife in my pack it was a great set up..i think FortyTwoBlades might have some.an its not that pricey.

I know Bryan Baker personally since the late 80,s..Ive probably snapped more of his knives than anyone (until he got the heat treat sorted)....Those are fine pig stickers......KALAMA,,great pics man!......FES

I have a Kiwi Pig Sticker its a great knife for the money $34.99 steel is good and the knife is pretty darn tough for such a thin blade. Here is a video a did a couple days ago compairing it to 2 other fixed blade knives.

Watch nz pig hunt on youtube. More throat cutting/stabbing, often with very curved skinners, than you'll want to remember. Even for kiwis, gutting while still alive is a tad barbaric.
Excuse me!? What do you mean by that last statement about gutting being barbaric and what exactly do you consider 'gutting?'

Disembowelling the animal while its still alive. Should be killed by another method first; heart stab, throat cut.

Uhh okaaay..., I missed where anybody had advocated disembowling a live pig.....and eeeeewww.....

Wild dogs frequently kill larger prey by disemboweling, a technique that is rapid but has caused this species to have a negative, ferocious reputation. For this reason, even some early wildlife "conservationists", such as Carl Akeley[15] took pride in killing entire wild dog packs.[16]

Could be why they are successful hunters. But they get chased off their kills by the larger lions, hyenas & leopards.

Nearly 80% of all wild dog hunts end in a kill; for comparison, the success rate of lions, often viewed as ultimate predators, is only 30%.

Hmmm yeah, about that; I think 'we' digress now. The thread was about pig sticking knives, not disembowling animals whilst alive:rolleyes:

Yup! I have 'em here. Kydex is available for them as well.

Having done hogs-n-dogs myself...I can say that pretty much anything with a spear point or steep clip point...7" of blade...and a good guard will get the job done. Everything else is a matter of taste. I had the luxury of making my own knife...was a lot of fun.

You can see a bunch of cool knives in this thread (including the one I used):
