Has anyone tried the Svord micro peasant?
The Svord Mini-Peasant is one of my favorite knives. I love friction folders and have a few of the mini's.
The peasant is a great knife... with a little tweaking. It shares that with the Opinel but I do like the Svord steel a little better. I've always been a sucker for decent carbon steel.
A mini doesn't come at all perfect though. The grinds are uneven and the tip often contacts the Chicago screw. The handles also compress on the end opposite the pivot when the knife is open and gripped firmly. These issues aren't hard to fix. You can reprofile the grinds easily enough and an o-ring on the non-pivot Chicago screw fixes both the tip contact and the compression problems.
It's a great knife for further tinkering and modding as well.
I use the (mini) peasant a lot as a work knife. It's carbon steel, big, rugged and inexpensive. I always wished for a smaller version to use as a watch pocket knife after work, so I was happy to see the micro come out.
Surprisingly, the micro was more expensive. I can get a mini for about $12 and the micro is about $20. It comes with a little pouch which I guess adds to the cost although it is not much more than thick suede.
The micro also comes with the issues the metal handled Svords had. The thin metal handle feels flimsy and the compression on the non-pivot end when open is quite noticable. Instead of Chicago screws it has brass screws which are peened so as to not work open and to be tight to turn for adjustment purposes.
It is the perfect size and I love that. So let's make it better.

I made some aluminum slabs 1/8" thick. I believe the factory slabs are 1/16". Then I got a 1/8" I.D. o-ring and installed it. I got the knife adjusted just right and used removeable loc-tite threadlocker on the screws (M3). I then used a hot wax treatment on the pouch to stiffen it up.

I really (really) like this knife now. I've been wanting a watch-pocket frikkie for a while and this one is sweetness.
I think that Svord is coming out with these partially to use the machinery they used on the regular metal handled model. Still, I would love to see a plastic handled micro, and without a pouch to keep costs down. It's a nice little thing aside from those thin slabs.
I'm curious to hear more input/opinions on this knife.
