Hey guys,

Does anyone have this knife. I was thinking of getting the Peasant from New Zealand. I was hope someone on here may have one. Please feel to share with me your likes and dislikes of this knife

Thanks.

Here's mine - plain timber grip has been stained and blade has some patina.

Likes - its different, steel quality is excellent, easy to sharpen, its a very secure type of folder to use if you grip the knife correctly - no lock to fail.

Dislikes - the screw heads detract from the traditional appearance. Apart from that, no problems - I would recommend them.

I don't remember ever seeing any US dealers. You may have to buy one from overseas. Seems to me that sometime about last September somebody was talking in a thread about being part of a group that bought a shipment together from an Australian dealer. They were all collectors.

If I'm wrong I apologize in advance and would appreciate correction.

That is really cool. I was wondering how thick the blade on the knife is. Do you guys think this knife could be a heavy duty work folder or more of a day to day light duty whittler?

Thanks

That'd be us. I ran a group-buy for TheHighRoad.org , for the knife sub-forum there. Got about 20 Svord Peasant knives, shipped directly from New Zealand. I believe they ended up being around $29, factoring in each person's share of Airmail from NZ, and Priority mail to each buyer from my house.

The dollar has been a little sketchy lately, but if you're willing to wait two months for the knife to come by slow-boat, should be around $7 for shipping, around $30 for the knife itself.

They also do make various sizes and custom scales, including red-stag tips, greenstone, and all kinds of groovy stuff. A call to NZ is like 8c a minute with a decent phonecard or Skype, so if you want something exotic you can call the Baker family around 9PM from your timezone, and ask what options are available. The Bakers were great folks to deal with, awesome accent too.

EDIT: that was a one-time deal, so no need to PM me about them. You can either get with Ragnar or call Svord directly.

i handled one at Ragnar's booth.

light, well made. definitely a workhorse that will start a few conversations.

i don't like the idea of a belt sheath for it, but i've been wearing more cargo pants lately and think it would fit nicely in the thigh pocket. maybe even swap the wood for carabao horn...

Wow, that is a beautiful knife. Is this pattern (friction folder) common in Germany?
I do believe the peasant pattern is Bavarian.

Hi,
when i start to introduce the Peasants in the german messerforum, not so much member had known it.
But you are right, the peasant Knife is based on models used in Bohemia and Bavaria 3-400 years ago. They were Farmers Knives.
My kids are very pleased with the peasants too. The peasant from my daughter is that one in the top and my sons this one in the bottom :)

To tell the truth, this is probably the best carbon steel that I have used. Especially when you put on the right edge.
