Swamp cooler out, thermostat says 93º

Glad they got you running.
Now you can go back to being One Cool Dude again. :)

WoooT hope you enjoyed your sleep last night Scara :)

Haven't slept that well in a while. At some point before I moved into my current bedroom someone put on a memory foam pad on the bed. That combined with the cool air gave me a great night's sleep. And this morning I went to a gunsmith's place where he let a friend and me use his tools to start knife making. Didn't get too far, since we only had about 3.5 hours, and the first hour was spent drawing on the barstock and then learning how to use the mill. Thankfully that was still a lot faster than trying to cut/file/grind the knife all the way to shape. We decided to do a tanto (with a traditional-ish tip, not chisel) and to have a wasp-waisted handle with no drop. We finished one half of the wasp-waisting. He showed us how to use his contour gauge to make it symmetric, and I traced out the contour onto a piece of paper so we can set it again. I'd show you a picture of the drawing, but I treated the stock in oil for a while so it wouldn't rust. I didn't realize at the time that this would give the blade a black coating. So black sharpie on a piece of black stock wouldn't show up in a picture well enough to be worth posting.

And I wouldn't count on my structure being better. The attic apartment I'm in was built much later and probably would come down and do a lot of damage to the ground floor.

And gather the money to buy a new refrigerator when the current one inevitably burns out its compressor. :p
Hopefully its the landlords fridge:D

NDog, You seem to have thought through the DogHouse construction pretty thoroughly. Building to minimize your location's issues is a great idea.

Yep. I came into my budget within a few hundred dollars. The whole dome cost me about $45K to build. It will be more to finish it out but I did all the labor myself except for when the crete trucks came. The whole foundation was dug by hand with nothing but a shovel. I had some buddies on the pump hose and helping spread and finish it out. I planned to do it all in concrete at first but abandoned the idea because I had to rely on too many people to do it so that didnt happen. I knew I could handle this build piece by piece so thats why i did the geodesic. Too bad the people in Nepal cant get wood like here because this would be the perfect structure for them.
The problem with todays building structures is banking and insurance. If it aint spec or cookie cutter they dont want to mess with it. Americas economy operates on credit and without credit most people cant build or even pick their nose. They do meet international building codes the day of inspection but that's about it.

If you live rural, often there are zero codes to worry over or permits to obtain in a huge percentage of US area and population. My retirement home is going to be zero expense for heating and cooling on a fixed income while utility bills edge towards $1000/mth for humblest digs.....i will be plonking three conexes side by side and locking them together at corners as designed....thick poly sheet wrap, cut any doors or dividers wished, likewise wall and floor covering...whatever...standard windows and double doors in airlock config, standard drainage culvert in front of each window, and burying it under fill dirt and then topsoil, utilities run through pipe...earthquake and tornado proof with flipdown or slipdown lids for window culvert (probably manhole covers)while staying 72° year round....only utilities will be for appliances and lights....and no financing anything....pay as you go....
