An older Rat that's not seen every day for your consideration....
The first person to post I'll take it without contingencies and a follow up e-mail will receive purchasing priority.
Please ask any questions prior to making a purchase commitment. My top priority is a hassle free transaction. I'll be more than happy to provide additional / higher resolution photos and discuss questions via PM, e-mail, or over the phone. I've done my best to accurately describe the condition of the knives I'm offering for sale, but there's always the issue of process variation and manufacturing tolerances inherent to this type of product so please inquire if there are issues of particular importance to you.
I will accept payment via USPS Money Order, or PayPal ("Purchase" type only, I will not accept PayPal Gift) with a confirmed address per the pricing listed. That being said, please be aware that if you have less then 5 positives as a buyer on itrader (or any negatives) I will prefer a US postal money order. I will ship via USPS w/signature confirmation and provide insurance to CONUS only.
I'm not interested in any trades at this time.
I reserve the right to not do business with any individual without explanation. All sales are as is, where is and without warranty (except as provided by the manufacturer). All sales are final. By purchasing this item you are stating that you are 18 years of age or older and abiding by all local, state and federal laws concerning the purchase, transportation and possession of this item.
SRKW Bog Dog: Satin D2 Steel Blade and Mudder Handle. I purchased this knife in 2006. It's condition was described as new and unused I believe this description was accurate, but there are some finish imperfections (very fine scratches) that are visible when the light is right. The close up of the choil area clearly shows what I would describe as the area and lighting condition. Conversely the same type of imperfections aren't visible in the close up of the Swamp Rat logo because of lighting variance. I don't think it's a significant issue unless a presentation level finish is what you're seeking, which was not a manufacturing goal when these knives were produced. I've not used, or sharpened the knife since receiving it.
Here's some information on this knife:
Specifications per Eric Isaacson:
Steel D2
Rc 60-62
Blade Thickness 1/8" (I measure it at just under .150 right in front of the handle)
OAL approx 9 5/8"
Blade Length approx 4 1/2" (I measure it at 4 11/16 from the end of the handle to the tip)
Handle Resiprene C in our new "mudder" pattern

Eric Isaacson 5-12-04: I've got bad news on the Bog Dog.....because I couldn't get them all in the pic.... The performance we have seen from these blades is incredible, I will post more on this later, but suffice it to say that we are very happy with the D2 and our proprietary HT. I have confidence in saying these will be the highest performance 1/8" thick D2 blades on the market.... Thanks to everyone for your patience. We are shipping them all this week and should be able to fill all the backorders. There are a few people that will be receiving emails regarding payment info, otherwise you should have your BD by sometime next week.
Eric Isaacson 11-23-04: Here are the pics from the some of the testing we did on the Bog Dog and the Safari Skinner. Both of these knives had a Rockwell hardness of between 61-62. Remember that D2 is not supposed to have much lateral strength at that high of a Rc. Also it would normally chip out with extreme impacts to the edge as it is more of a cutter not a high impact steel. As the pictures show, the Bog Dog has a significant flex and the Safari Skinner pics were taken after a 275 lb Deputy Sheriff spent 1 1/2 hrs pounding on it with a hammer. The edge has rolled but is not chipped out like you'd expect (and even more important it isn't in pieces) and you can even see the area on the side of the blade where it was impacted with the hammer. When finished the hardened face of the hammer actually had gouges in it from the knife. These pics show that we have achieved a large amount of malleability of the edge(which is uncommon for D2). Also some makers don't think that D2 performance can be increased by a deep cryo treatment, I think that these tests prove differently. We have done testing on most of the other D2 blades out there from many many makers and none of them come even close to this level of toughness or durability. We do these tests so you don't have to. In the past, we have probably been overly cautious when discussing the abilities of our D2 blades, but now you can really see what they can do. We get this type of performance because of our proprietary Heat treat and deep cryo cycles. However, please don't try to break them just so you can say you did. Toughest D2 blades on the planet.
There's a lot more information on these knives out there, but I will add that this knife is very light weight (I measure 4.7 ounces), pretty rare these days, and, in my opinion, one of the most useful knives that's ever come out of the Swamp: $265 USPS MO / $275 PayPal
