Swamp Rat Custom Shop Vexillaris

The Vex is a really neat little slicer. I wouldn't try to hammer it into any concrete blocks, but it's pretty nice. The handle is a touch thin, so I could see it getting a bit fatiguing to use if you're using it for a long time.

By comparison, the handles on the mud puppy LE and meaner street variant I picked up both felt nicer in hand. The Vex feels a lot more compact, though, so might make a better choice for an EDC. With a nice thin sheath, the Vex could feel like it's not even there while it's sitting on your belt or IWB.

How thick is the little sucker?

Fairly thin. Here's a comparison pic with a few others I picked up yesterday:

Mud Puppy LE, Vex, High Street, and just for fun, NMSFNO.

And a comparison side shot, why not?

THIS is the type of thing I have been waiting for! I will take several of those

I think I might wind up with 2 of those.

Looks to be ~1/8" thick, ~4" blade.

Edit: After doing some Googling, looking for people's thoughts/reviews... I am disturbed that this is named after a gerbil.

MM, is the 'High Street' wider then the normal production Meaner Streets? If you have one, would you mind doing a side by side shot?

Unfortunately, I don't have a normal meaner - hopefully someone who has one can chime in, probably on Tuesday after the hangover and jet lag wear off :D

High vs. Meaner = wider, shorter and with a usable choil. It also has some slick semi-swedge grinding on top. I got one in satin w/ black paper that and it's a very cool knife. :D

thanks for the photos MM...

it's a slick looking! a scaled down sar 5 slicer...dare I say a sar 4?

I think that name is already taken. And a Sar4 is a *very* different knife, much less appealing to me than the Vex.

here is a couple similar sized blades for comparison..

Wow. That's a true steel, er steal.

If I didn't just pick up Eli's EURO4, I'd be tempted by that one. I'm just hoping the Wacky-Rat is slow to make and I can catch up a bit before buying.

I saw on a thread the Vex isn't going to be offered...

True? Blade folk in the know?

That would make me very sad.

This little guy looks *really* good, a thin little EDC-able slicer with great edge retention. Looks quite versatile too, great for food prep - this gerbil fellow is nearly a 4" santoku. :D

Yeah, I'm also really liking the looks of this one, especially in D2. I would be dissappointed if I weren't able to get my hands on one.
