Gun season starts up on Saturday, so I sharpened up the Safari Skinner in preparation. The D2 took an edge better than any other D2 I own. Hair popping, plain and simple.

Hope I get to test it this weekend.

awesome! and that will do the job very nicely...it has that sweet swoop to it!

Preemptively...

Guyon, please do NOT post in this thread unless you bring pics :D (HINT HINT)

Guyon, Best of luck to ya!

Our firearm season started on Wednesday of this week. Unfortunately I couldn't get out of some pressing issues at work. Saturday will be my first day out as well. I spent some time Wednesday (in protest of not getting out) sharpening the Howling Rat that will be going afield with me.

Keep us posted on your season and let us know when the venison is on the table. I'll bring the beer.

...actually, if you could give me about 8 - 10 hours notice. I'm not exactly down the street :p

Chris

The sheath, BTW, is a Dave "The Sheath Mechanic" rig. Dave does good work.

Not going to get to hit the woods until Saturday evening, but I'm hunting Sunday and Monday as well. Will update on any successes.

i always like hunting guns its as much fun as hunting for knives let me no when knife season startsagain im off too get my limit on some guns:D :D ;)

Limit here is two guns a day. Or one black rifle. Those are wife-enforced limits and do not necessarily reflect statewide regulations.

Didn't see much. Something walked up behind me on Saturday evening just as it was getting good and dark. It must've caught wind of my scent because it started snorting and carrying on like I'd spanked it on the ass. It ran off. I grunted. Then, it came back, and started the snorting all over again. I never saw this deer.

Sunday morning, a small doe filtered past in the scrub pines in front of me. She disappeared almost as soon as I saw her.

Monday morning, a small spike walked right under my stand and fed underneath me for a while.

I'd have take a decent sized doe or a buck with a nice rack, but neither were in the cards.

My knife sure was sharp though!

Sorry to hear that you didn't get one this year. It was basically the same story for me here in AZ -- saw two bucks the entire time and they were visible for such a short time and moving quickly enough that a shot was just not realistic. Nevertheless, it was good to get out. Hope you still had an enjoyable time!:)

Whoa, whoa, whoa. The year ain't over yet! :D

Got another muzzleloading season and then another gun season here in TN. I'll be hunting until the end of December.

I see now. You're in one of those "normal" states where the hunting season isn't just a 5-day pray to God that you get something kind of ordeal...like Arizona. Having come from Illinois and Wisconsin, also "normal" states, I kind of miss the way things used to be when I was younger. I actually am getting so disillusioned with Arizona Game & Fish game management that I am considering taking a transfer in my job or simply hunting only in adjoining states. We'll see...maybe next year I will be a new Alaska resident. :D
