Not trying to Hijack this wonderful thread, but for a novice what is the difference between the M9 and R9? Just the blade grind? Thanks in advance.

Main difference is handle. M9 is basically a larger scaled version of the well loved Ratmandu. Also its a clip point. The R9 is a lightning bolt handle.

To the best of my knowledge both are saber grind and correct me if I'm wrong gentlemen but I thought the M9s were 3/16? Or are they 1/4 thick like the R9s?
 
M9s were also differentially heat treated.
M9 is an old, discontinued model, R9 is in the current shop lineup.
