Swamp Rat

I like my Camp Tramp quite a bit.

I waited far longer than I was told I would wait. I am generally patient so no big deal.

I do feel like most things come later than expected. I have not found too many instances where the company said that a product or line will be out/delivered at a particular date/time and then hit that date. No flames, just the way I see it.

I really like the people however, and the dedicated fan base is a knowledgable, helpful and respectful group.

FWIW,
I have sent at least 4 or more e-mails to Swamp Rat and have yet to receive a responce. That's kind of like the Busse customer service which I don't have a lot of respect for. Oh, well, keep it in the family.

By the way, I e-mailed Justin at Ranger Knives and got a very quick responce. He also said he will be out of town until the 20th. of the month but I bet as soon as he is back he will respond quite fast to requests and orders.

I for one, am thinking of getting one of his RD series just because of the customer sevice as well as the reputation his blades have. Ranger Knives by Rangers....that works for me! HU-AH!

Busse and SR seem geared toward collectors. They know their knives will sell, so they don't have to be overly concerned with dealing with people who only want an actual user and not to order half the catalog. Even though they're production firms, you have to view it like dealing with a custom maker, only you don't get an actual custom. Both companies have been successful with the way they operate, so it must be working out for them.

I've heard a lot of good about his knives, it's just that I gag every time I look at them on his website. I think perhaps he should get someone to reshoot those knife, cause those photographs make them look horrible, like stamped-out $5 trash. In fact, I would make Justin a deal - I'll shoot all of his knives in sexy poses in exchange for just one of them, perhaps slightly customized. :D

From what I have read, I would get either a Rnager Knife or a Fehrman knife. I would lean more towards Ranger, based on the INCREDIBLE customer service people have!!

HARDHEART,
Yeah, their knives sell, I have had a B.M "E", a Lean Mean Street prototype, and the 7" and 9" of the older rubber handle knives with the "modified INFI". But you know, the only reason I had those knives, was when Andy Prisco was still working with them and he DID give good customer service. If Andy Prisco said something you could depend on it but if you called or e-mailed Busse Knives and they told you "yeah, your knife is in the mail "(assuming that they even bothered to answer in the first place) you might not see that knife for 6 mos. or more if at all, but you can be damned sure that your credit card got charged as soon as they got it! :thumbdn:

I will NOT EVER buy another Busse product or a Swamp Rat. They can keep their attitude in their family while I buy Tridents, or Ranger, or Randalls, or Fallknivens, or Chris Reeve knives.

I know that Randall Made Knives has a 52 month waiting period but at least they tell you up front and you know what to expect. I will bet that my Randalls will appreciate better and quicker then the Busse family stuff!

Well, I guess that blew off some steam!

Thanks Kimper. I just went to the Ranger website and love the RD9!

Great advice, can't thank you enough!!

You can also get the RD series in flat grind. Also, think about contacting Justin Gingrich personally if you want any special modifications done to your blade. He is very accomodating and it does not really affect the delivery time of your blade which is usually about a week.

He has quite a following and perhaps you will be too. Check out the link to Sage Creek Outfitters for a look at a flat grind.

Here's an RD9 Justin did for me last year at the top. I had a couple of things done to it and it was in my hands in less than 2 weeks from my initial request to Justin at Ranger and the price was more than reasonable. Another plus is that every Ranger includes a sheath.

Hmmm...it was 48 months back when I ordered my Model 12. Of course, three weeks until 48 months were up I got a call saying it'd probably be about six months more. I got it in eight...

Of course, if your second statement is true, or even if the appreciation is equal to Busse's in the same period, I guess that knife is now worth between $900.00 and $1000.00. Any takers???

;)
