Swamp Rats and Glocks

Considering what you get, the price is more than reasonable.
I completely agree. In fact, I intend to get one myself. Notice I wrote "more expensive", not "expensive". "More" is a relative term, and by no stretch of the imagination is it intended to indicate that the knives are overpriced. They may well be the best value among production knives. Many people think the same way of Kimbers and Wilsons. Personally, I prefer a 12 ga, but that's a different story. :D

BTW, love your reviews. Have been reading them long before I discovered this forum.

I think my Swamp Rats are more comparable to my Springfield XD, you know the gun that "out Glocks the Glock" :D . Not to stir the pot  .

Yes, I would tend to place them there, but a lot depends upon what you want/need. If you don't need a lot of durability then there are other knives which are likely of better value.

And of course, durability requirements will depend on what it is that you indend to do with them. If your name is Cliff, and you test knives in nuclear fission chambers(1), your definition of durability may differ from that of an average mortal. :D

(1) Too bad you can't actually run a test like that. I would love to find out how micarta handles survive nuclear fallout compared to GV6H or stacked leather.

Namviet Vo used to do extreme tests such as subjecting knives to industrial waste (no kidding) and shooting them, he also used to do more mundane things like actually carry and evaluations as well.

I don't know if there is any glock of the knife world yet. I saw a test on the internet where someone who had a very beat up and ugly glock because they'd neglected to do ANY maintainence on their glock for years decided to drop it from a plane, buried it in mud, ran over it in a truck, shot it with another gun, and a lot of other stuff, and it still worked. The virtue of the glock is that it's made of plastic that's tougher than steel. Until they invent a plastic or ceramic that not only is tougher than steel but is less brittle, easier to sharpen, holds an edge better, is relativly cheap, and light, there is no glock of the knife world.

I think a glock of the knife world would be a folder. I see rifles as being like swords, because they're too big, revolvers are like fixed blades because they are more inconvient to carry but less prone to failure, and pistols are folders.

Maybe I'm putting too much thought into this...

very interesting observations!

I hate Glunks :barf: .

I am a HK guy. Don't sling anything at me.... is just personal taste anyway, both shoot when you pull the trigger.

One thing that doesn't work for me in this comparison is the price. Glocks are priced extremely reasonably, kind of like Beckers or Ka-Bars.

You got it.

Glocks are at the lower end of the price spectrum. Swamp Rats aren't.
