We divided our production team into 4 different teams. These teams will each have 2 leaders. They will be making a design of their choosing and these designs will be posted as a special offer. The team that has the biggest hit will win a valuable prize!!!! If a group uses your suggestion, you will receive a free knife from that offer!!!!! These can be modified versions of past designs or entirely new ideas!!!! The first one to suggest the idea that inspires the team's design will be the winner. . . . There are 4 teams and therefore, 4 chances at winning. If a team uses a design that has not been suggested, then NO prize will be awarded. Each team will decide whose post inspired them the most and will pick their own design winner.

All 4 lines of Busse Kin Blades Are Qualified for this competition. I have it on good authority that one of the teams is primarily interested in doing a design for the Swamp!!!!

Here are the 4 lines . . . .

Busse Combat
Busse Custom Shop
Swamp Rat
Scrap Yard

NO DRAWINGS or PhotoShop Pics!!!! . . . They will be deleted!!!!. . . Written descriptions only!!!!!

They're gonna need your help, so tell 'em what you want and encourage them to bring it!!!!

Good luck to all who participate. . . .

Jerry :D

Here are the Team Names and their respective leaders. . . .

Excellent! Attention all Rats!

...and I'd still like a Machete design (minimum 12", but more like 15" - 18" and appropriately thin).:)

...or the Tony G-style modified ABA-LE (choilless; as Tony says, his "bird and trout").:)

I'd be just as happy with a Swamp-based version of these as I would be with a Busse Combat-based version.

Additional ideas: 1) Rat Golok (thicker spine, but longer blade -- maybe 16", with the classic golok curve).
2) Rat Fighter (3/16" at the thickest part of the spine, at least 7" blade with very sharp point, perhaps even a sub-hilt design). This knife would warrant an interesting grip with finger grooves.

what about a long sleek blade ,7" long,1" wide, about 1/4" thick maybe 3/16",medium size finger gaurd, something like the older satin jacks but longer, leaner, an meaner,a better m-95 ranger puukko,,aloha

what about a long sleek blade ,7" long blade,1" wide, about 1/4" thick maybe 3/16",medium size finger gaurd, something like the older satin jacks an a m-95 ranger puukko rolled into one,but longer, leaner, an meaner,,aloha,,,sorry for the double post dont know what went wrong when in edit

mega rat mojo - at least a 10" blade, recurved, without the hook. Make it from thin stock, and give it a res-c handle for old times' sake. SR-77 or SR-101 both work for me, although a differentially tempered SR-101, in double cut or satin, to show off the temper line, would be GORGEOUS.

Or, if you don't want to do res-c, a handle to match the style of the M9LE would be sweet, and a balance similar to the m9le would be awesome as well. this should be a mean brush clearer, not a chopper!

Busse ABA or BAIII made out of SR101.

I can pretty much guarantee that you won't be able to keep up with demand. :D

RAT KHUKRI!

Res-C or Micarta, made from thin SR-101, saber ground to keep cost low. Offer a satin version with a visible temper line, and I'd buy several. Keep the saber grind about an inch in width all along the blade, so there is a lot of weight out near the tip, making a mean ole chopper.

Or how about a rat or scrap yard fillet knife?

Similar profile to the Bird Dog, maybe an inch or two longer, with a THIN THIN THIN 154CM blade. The thinner the better - we want lots and lots of flex for filleting. Put mudder handles on that sucker and it'll be an instant winner!

Do we have email contacts for each team ?? Or should we just post ideas here for everyone? Is there a team that is working on just SwampRat? I'd rather email my ideas, but let us know.....

The thread on the Busse Combat forum has lots and lots of people posting their suggestions in the thread, so I'm assuming that's how it is done.

Since I'm already posting here, how's about a RAT ULU! 154CM, Micarta grip - talk about a mean kitchen tool.

Ok here are the winning ideas:D

I'll lay it out with one idea for each brand, but it is interchangable between brands as you decide what is best.

Busse;

SAR3 - 3" version of the SAR4 but with a belt cutter and window breaker intergrated into the skullcrusher. Also a serated section on the back of the blade for HD sawing and allowing a full 3" blade. A 3" EDC Survival/Rescue would sell great. Other brands have done well in this market....

SwampRat;

Tanto - A Tanto would go well with the success of the Waki. Just a shorter version of the Waki with a single hand grip. Making options available on this blade would increase sales... for example the traditional person may want a plain Tanto... where a Military person may want a skull crusher... a EMT/Police may want a Tanto for the HD metal penetrator tip with a serrated back side on the blade with integrated belt cutter/window breaker Skull Crusher... This would make the Tanto appeal to all types of customers.

ScrapYard;

Rescue/Police Tool - A dedicated blunt point rescue/police tool with intergrated belt cutter, serrated back of blade for HD sawing, special cutouts in handle for possible gas cut-off or popular bolt sizes. Big growing market for EMT, Police and CERT teams around the country.....

*** More details for these designs are available upon request.:D:thumbup:

BTW I need a SandStorm Moab for my collection.:thumbup::D

I am a big fan of the Ratmandu.

One swamprat knife I would like to see is a six inch version of the RMD with a satin or doublecut blade finish. No choil, and a few handle options including res C, G10, micarta and maybe even some wood options.

I realy like the idea of a police rescue tool. Not trying to take your idea sir, just complimenting it. I would like to see something with a 6 inche blade, spear point with a good swedge. Sabre grind would be nice. I dont like serations at all. I would like to see a more symetrical handle to facilitate more grip options. A nice comfy oval shape would be nice rather than slabs with rounded edges. This may be taboo here and if it is I am sorry. I am seeing something like a Chris Reeve Green Beret, but with all the rat teeth marks. This would be a great military knife. It could be a good stabber, but also a good general purpose blade as well. It cant be too big. Believe it or not, most military officers dont like to see troops with BFKs. (Big F&%$ing Knives) I caught alot of crap for carrying my ratwieler and frankly, it was too big. Always catching on stuff in the hummer and slapping my leg, or hitting me in the no no place. It got some cool looks from other Joes, but that was it.

DESERT JACK PLATFORM w/ handle mods blade in INFI

Take the desert Jack, widen the handle by 1/4 inch and taper the
butt so that the metal is not as far out as it is in the original design.
Take the choil out and extend handle material to where the choil presently
ends and handle flares out to ( a la Waki).Offer it in .22 infi (satin or dc please)
and black g10 handles.Oh and convex the blade if you must........

So in the end this is not a Desert Jack but rather a Sleek Jack

1) How about a double edged, dagger style blade in INFI or diff. HT SR101? I'm thinking maybe a 3-5" blade, G-10/micarta handles with full and exposed tang. A nice option would be full serrations on one side. Definitely a hand guard. Small or no choil. Something for the soldiers.

2) Combat chef's knife: As always INFI's preferred. Dropped point, standard type large chef's knife. I'm thinking 4-7" blade. The chef's knife design is a very effective combat design. I do prefer the looks of G-10/micarta slabs rather than the RES-C material. No choil or hand guard necessary as the bottom of the blade will act as a hand guard. Reinforced tip option would be nice.

3) Combat Wharnie design: A sharp tipped wharnie has combat effectiveness as well as utilitarian value. I'm thinking of something along the lines of a Snody/Janich/Lambert wharnie style knife. Again, the EDC size would be optimal, anywhere from 3.5-6". Maybe place the choil in the handle as opposed to the bottom of the blade.

4) Chinese Chopper: Something with a blade around the 5-8+" range. The tip will be almost like a wharnecliffe but with a steeper angle. Won't be ideal for stabbing motions, but will make an awesome chopper.

5) Monster Meat Cleaver: Good ol' fashioned meat cleaver with a combat-style twist of course.

Possible options for any design:

#1: Bottle opener at the butt of the knife
#2: Satin finish with hamon for LE

A few things I wouldn't mind seeing:

1) A hardcore machete. Handle has to be comfy, maybe ResC? Probably 14-18" length.

2) A leaf shaped short sword or gladius.

3) Some kind of pointy/stabby fighter with a great grip
