In my limited experience sr101 just seems to stay sharper longer for general utility cutting purposes. I too love sr101 in larger apps, esp a thinner stocked blade like the 1311, but overall when it comes to more aggressive tasks Infi all the way. As for uncoated sr101, I love it for a user and expect it to look ugly real quick. Safe queen no thx : p
Eta-+1 infi m9!!!!
I agree with this completely.
What follows is a laundry list of opinion...no reason, just feels good to let it fly.
The strength of INFI (aside from corrosion resistance) is really shown in the larger blades. The RMD/SMD is probably the size boundary for noticing the toughness advantage of INFI for me - any smaller and I prefer coated SR101. I think that SR101 either has to be coated or you have to not really care how it looks - green and old school tan coatings wear longest IMO. I probably won't ever buy a small uncoated SR101 knife. In larger INFI knives the coating just adds color and weight, so unless I'm looking specifically for that weight (as in the Basic 9), then I strongly prefer uncoated INFI.
I love bigger SR101 blades too, but I prefer the through-hardened ones. SR101 doesn't really need the benefits of a differential temper and in my experience only creates a weaker overall knife.
For a small dedicated cutter I prefer D2.
My working set right now is Basic 9, tan gen1 howling rat, d2 satin vexilarius and a three finger. I'm really looking forward to handling the SMD. This blade may shake things up a bit.
