I have incredibly sweaty hands and have all my life
do you guys have any suggestions for folding knives?
I'm not too concerned about rust etc I'm looking for easy opening and a great grip
any help?
thanks in advance

I did the cooking oil test on my chinook 3. That means I dipped it in cooking oil and stabbed a piece of wood. My grip was solid enough even then.

Depending on your budget a Gerber Gator, or Alpha Pohl Force H series. If you like the Gerber it can accept a thumbstud modification for easy open.

Anything with aggressively textured G10 as the handle scale material should work well for ensuring a good grip with sweaty hands. You might consider some of Cold Steel's models (namely the Recon, Lawman, and AK-47), since they tend to texture their G10 about as aggressively as anyone. Spyderco also makes a number of models that could suit your needs. Their G10 texture isn't quite as aggressive as Cold Steel's, but they do a great job of designing their knives' ergonomics to be conducive to comfort and good grip. (Off the top of my head, you might check out the Military, Paramilitary 1 and 2, and Caly 3.5.)

You also can't go wrong with anything from Kershaw or Benchmade, as both are excellent companies.

Kershaw: JYD II CB, Lahar, ZT 0350, 0300.

Spyderco: military, para, caly 3, stretch.

Cold steel: american lawman, AK47, Recon1....

XM-18

I find that the scale texture contributes less to the solidity of the grip than the shape of the handle.

The XM-18 slipped out of my hands....and my hands aren't even that sweaty. I wouldn't recommend it in this situation. The Strider SMF/SNG's are very grippy and the jimping is huge, you can't slip on that.

Agreed -- I suggested textured G10 because, all else being equal, I've found it to be a bit more "grippy" than other materials. (YMMV, of course.) But you're absolutely right that a good handle shape matters more to making a knife feel secure/solid in the hand than does the scale texture/material.

I do have the same problem most of the time.

I think all textured g10 is great.
So most spyderco's are ok.
Frn like on delica or frn ukpk is also a good grip.

I also own a zt200 and it has very rough grippy g10.
Even the standard bead blasted finish of a sebenza is grippy enough.

I have sebenza that has been smoothed and this one is not grippy enough for me.
So would knives like ER or other brands with steel handles not be the best choice.

But you could alos choose a knife with very good ergonomics/fingergrips so the hand would not slip even when the handles are made from smooth materials.

By the way, micarta handles actually get grippier when wet [ask around], another good bet is the G-10 clad ZT 0200 it has an "ultimate" or near ultimate handle shape as far as grip. ;)

Spyderco's G10 gets less grippy over time. Feels nicer, but is more slippery.

I would suggest something in their FRN. The bi-directional grip is pretty good. Try the Stretch-it's quite secure, even in something like SS.

Knives with flippers which act as guards when open might be a good choice for you. I'm very fond of the Zero Tolerance 0350 (much more compact and EDC friendly than the other ZTs). The Kershaw Lahar is another good one, great materials and design.
