Like a lot of folk I always wanted a good barrel knife. Too dear. I would rather spend a few days making one.... So I did.

600 layer Damascus blade, spring and butt. Hand made Sterling silver fittings, brass liners, and Mallee Root Handle.

About to start making a couple more and could post a wip if the interest is there.

Hope you like.

Nice work corin, very unique knives those barrel knives.
I have a knife handled in Mallee, beautiful wood.

A WIP would be nice,it looks like a lot of work went into it & seeing the steps would be educational, entertaining & much appreciated.

WIP would be greatly appreciated, specially with such a beautiful example

Beautiful work. That's a pocketknife with style. Can you imagine sitting around with a bunch of knife nuts and pulling that out to peel an apple? You'd instantly have the attention of the room.

Gorgeous! I too would love to see a WIP post. Turned out great! And such a seemingly complex design... Excellent work!

Wow!

That's a very nicely made "Tunnkniv", wich is Swedish for barrelknife.

Wow, thanks for all the positive comments folks. I am still inspired to make a few more. The next one will be more traditional in shape, both handle and blade. The one after that will be the two bladed version.
I will take lots of pictures of the process.
I have lots of small bits of wood in my collection that are all crying out to be made into barrel knives.
