Swedish Strip Steel Spydies?

Hi Sal!

Any chance we'll see some Swedish strip steels (AEB-L, 12C27, 13C26...) available in Spyderco brand folding pocketknives? I have some kitchen and pocketknives using these steels and they're right up there with ZDP-189, VG-10, H-1, and SG-2 for being favorite stainless steels I've used. I'd love to see some in folders with round opening holes and locked by Compression Locks or midlocks.

Many thanks,

Thom

I can't wait to try a Spyderco in one of those steels. After using Thom's Larrin Thomas santoku in AEB-L I would love to try a pocket knife in that steel with a similar heat treat. That knife got extremely sharp from light stropping after much use, and it would seem an ideal steel for those of us who like knives that get really sharp and hold an edge for a decent time.

My non-Spyderco folding knives in 13C26 (Kershaw) and 12C27 (Lagouile DuBost) certainly take very sharp edges. Kept in their hardness parameters and given a full-flat Spydie grind and a midlock or Compression Lock would be insanely wonderful and given a Larrin Thomas heat-treat would, well, I don't have to tell Mike, but it's nice! Frankly, insanely wonderful is insanely wonderful, too.

It has probably to do something about Hrc rates and shipping cost and dollar - euro exhange that will keep our Man reluctant.

I agree with you you Tom; Scandinavians make excellent stuff..;)

I wonder what this T12 Forge de Laiole stuff is.. not 12C27 but something else
.. It is kept of the main steel charts so i can't find.
Nosy bugger i'am.
:D

Hi Thom,

Probably in the future. We plan to try them out in Mule teams.

Sal, is there any particular steel and hardness combination you have in mind for a Mule run?

I have been happy with the performance of these steels and would like to see what your company can do with them.

They certainly make great clean steel and produce the foundry employees to keep up that production.

No idea on T12. It could be a tungsten-rich high speed tool steel or 12C27-mod. or Marss50, well it could be anything.

I would love to see medium size spyderco folders with these steels with FFG blade.

Works for me. My hollow-ground Kershaw ET (in glorious 13C26) has displaced my Superhawk and Howling Rat from their EDC status many, many times (such as now).
