The other evening I rode up to a creek that runs through the gorge between sections of Walden's Ridge to shoot some photos. It had been bone dry a few days ago as we are still behind on out Autumn rains. One thing about living in any rain forest is that large amounts of water can come on short notice, and it definitely wasn't dry that day.

These are a couple of shots from last week.

The skies were dark and cloudy and it showered off and on while I was there.

While I was there and things were nice and wet I thought I'd play around with the little RSK a bit. I set up on a wet rock with a little fatwood, a ferro rod, and the RSK. The little knife actually does come with a nice edge that whittles well, and even though it's a small knife it's still definitely a useful tool. I need to get it out and do some food prep and a few things for an actual review.

Shortly after that it was getting dark, I sat next to the creek for a few more minutes and then it was time to head out.

Water pics are always cool when the water has a nice flow to it

How is the little RSK working for you?

Mist, great shots again, looks like a place I used to go on our farm when I was a "youngster" & would sit for hours contemplating the fate of the world . . . :)
Being nosy, what model of camera do you have? I just bought my wife a Canon S5-15 a few months ago. Gives her something to do in the back of the boat while I try to break the state largemouth bass record. Thanks for the great shots.
Be safe.
p.s.: Oh yeah, just happened to see the "light" also . . . :)

That's a hi-speed camera that can take a picture of itself without a mirror!!

Wow Brian, neat pics. Cool about how much water was there.

Bryan

Thanks Bryan, glad you enjoyed them. Yeah, I have seen a couple of floods bring rocks as big as houses down that creek. It's a surrealistic sight watching a rock the size of a house rolling down a creek and taking out a concrete bridge. It sucked too because it rearranged all the swimming holes and none of the new ones were as good as some of the old ones.

Yeah, I love the creeks around here after a rain.

So far so good, haven't messed with it as much as I'd like but so far it's perfect for what I wanted it for.

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the pics. Yep, I meditate there a lot in the cooler months, always have.

It's a Nikon D3000

It looks like he has the Nikon D3000 or maybe 5000 with the kit 18-55mm VR lens possibly

Spot on, next I want to get a 18-105 VR for it.

Thanks Mike me too, seeing that creek dry this time of year was a little disconcerting.

I'm liking it a lot actually. I had other small knives, one issue was that I wanted one that had a thin sheath that would take up as little space as possible but still afford protection for the other items in the kit. The knife actually handles well for a little knife, has a good blade geometry, and has a great edge. Hard to ask for more than that from a small knife, and for the price I'm really happy with it.

have you heard of kenrockwell.com? He has a lot of good reviews on lenses. I'd look into the 18-200mm VR II

guess that camera is fairly moisture proof. i do'nt know anything about cameras but rain on equipment scares me. great pics mist ,i believe you could start a fire with 2 rocks.thanks

Wow that is an amazing difference within a week! Sure looks like an awesome area and I love the fall colors. Great pics as usual.

Awesome. How can I pick up some photography skills?

JGON

Well...I've been playing with cameras for years. The Nikon in the pics is nearly 4 months old and has logged over 10,000 photos probably more I need to adjust the settings if i can because right now it just starts at the last picture on the memory stick and counts up from there. My Canon is a year and a half old and has rolled over 5 times and working on it's 6Th...it rolls over every 10,000 shots. So that alone is roughly 70,000 photos in a year and a half. My best advise is get a camera and start taking pictures, but you could take some classes too. Most community colleges offer them.

I bet you could sit there all day!!!

Yep, used to do that a lot actually.

That is some beautiful country. You are very lucky to live where you do.

Thanks, definitely beautiful here. As for lucky...yes and no.

I talked to a few war correspondants before deciding on a camera, went with the Nikon because so many feel it is a tougher camera.

Actually I have studied that...but never really tried it yet :)

Thanks man. Yep, it was a real big difference from one week to the next.
