Mine arrived this afternoon, packaged securely in a small UPS box. The blade itself was shipped in a padded Spyderco box with the knife sandwiched in cardboard with a plastic tip protector all inside of a plastic sleeve. The tip is needle sharp and undamaged and the blade shaves and cuts paper with ease. This all probably comes as no surprise to the addicts on the board, but I thought it might be of interest to anyone unfamiliar with Spyderco factory shipping practices who ended up over here specifically looking for info about this knife.
The blade is covered in fingerprints, but those are all mine.
It's pretty comfortable in its skeletonized form, (the wife was admiring this, but she had her chance when I placed the order), and I think it would be supremely comfortable in the hand with 1/8" or 3/16" scales. It's comfortable in either regular or reverse grip and, while the shape is not optimized for either of these, could function in an edge-up or pikal grip without too much thought or discomfort. I'm guessing, though, that anyone who wanted those options as primary options would look elsewhere for a small fixed blade.
Having it in hand, I'm still undecided if I would rather carry it handle-up or handle-down at 3:00 or in a pocket with either kydex or a leather wallet style sheath. Will have to decide before I start looking into getting the sheath made.
Anyone here have an earlier version of the Swick that they put in a leather wallet style or pocket carry sheath?
