Swick3: Who will carry it?

My thoughts exactly! Jimping in that area would be much appreciated by those of us using them for detail work on the bench or desk.

You and me both. Truly a great all-'rounder!

Although mine would be a combination of "micro" (or is it nano?) guard; juuust the slightest bend or curvature on the metal up front and jimping to make it really secure in the hand.

isnt the slighty pointed swell on the underside of the finger hole a guard? Its pretty substantial already

The "micro" guard + jimping style I'm suggesting is to be located up front, just under the plunge line/edge transition area. This is to aid when you hold it in "pinch grip" style or without putting your index finger in the hole for detail or fine cutting tasks.

The Domino for example -

AAAhhh I see!! Interesting . I dont know how they would incorporate something like that but you're suggesting a "tab" that juts out from the swell already under the fingerhole?

Neat to see the SWICK again, but I'm eagerly waiting for the ARK. I'm supposed to deploy again next summer, and I hope to have one to take with me.

Yeah, I suppose a "tab" is a better way to describe it. Somehow just a tangible point on your finger that, along with jimping, kind of reminds you that; "Ok, the rest of the way is sharp already!" When I use it for finer cutting and carving.

Just to further illustrate, the Paramilie has something more pronounced. Don't really like it as much as the Domino's though.

BTW, I just checked the Swick 2 leaf and indeed there is jimping there and it looks like the "curve" on the underside looks more comfy in the hand. That plus the "tab" we're talking about along with the already "biggified" hole Spydie already did is to me a further refinement of the Swick.

yep I like what they did to the Leaf version. wonder why they discontinued the extra jimping underneath? It only enhances the functionality of the nife . Maybe to keep costs down they did away with it but i would pay the extra 5-10 bucks to get it back . The leaf version also has that little tab you speak of and that is good too.

Hi John,

We'res still evolving the Swick. When I'm convinced that it has been refined enough to be a reliable, very effective SD design, then we'll do a reagular production. Size, thickness, jimping and shape has all been evolving.

The ARK sample just came back. Thanx much. I've got another note going to you on Monday. We can shoot for summer, but the injection mold alone will take about 3 months. Also depends on how many changes we make on the protos until we pull the trigger.

Hi Glowbug,

There was some question about the underside jinping causing discomfort and being overdone. These two versions will have no jimping underside. The Leaf versions are already cut. Waitng for a slot on the grinder. If the general consensus is that it needs jimping, we bring it back on the 5 model.

Thanx for responding Sal!!

Exciting news I will be waiting for that leaf model!!! You could chase your tail endlessly trying to make everyone happy I am guessing. I will get a leaf without the jimping I dont think its that crucial but I think it looks nice and with precision cutting I would think it offers more control/grip? I truly dont know how much more you could do to improve the Swick. The Version 1 warnie I have is fantastic other than lacking the 2nd hole for paracord or handle slab attachement . Well actually I would only have one change I would see as good. the pointy butt is to me a bit unnecessary and just creates unneeded length. a more rounded butt on the handle would be more conducive to concealed/close to the body/pocket-belt carry. I have been considering grinding mine down just to get the point gone but dont really want to hack on such a beauty :)

Nice to hear the Swick will eventually become a production knife once it is ready. I saw nothing wrong with the first one, then the second one improved things I didn't even think about, and now the third one is even better. I will of course get the fourth and will then wonder what the fifth will have that could possibly improve it yet again.

Again I'm loving the recurved-front-facing/hawkbill tip of the 3. Very little practice has yielded devastating results, and I already have several students saving their lunch money for one of their own.

Thanx much. We'll keep our eye on the forum for thoughts from our customers. That and our own use will offer refinements.

Wow, I just experienced something new... I'll call it a "Spydercarma" moment.

I was packing tonight for a cold-weather campout this weekend outside Bend, Oregon, with my 12 year old and his Scout troop. What knife(s) to bring? (I own just around 15 or so - Spydies, ZTs and Benchmade.) The Stretch 2 has to go - it's been a camping "must have" for some time (I just love using it for food prep). I also feel like bringing a bigger knife... so is it the Manix 2 XL, or my brand new ZT 0560BW? I should try the new ZT... but oh heck, I have to bring the Manix instead, it's too comfy/perfect for heavier use/wood/etc.

I packed the knives... and on a whim, logged in before going to bed, and see this thread. And there's Sal in action again, engaged with his customers. And finally, the perfect "neck knife" I've been waiting for (I hadn't seen the Swick before.) I can't wait to pick one up and customize it!

For my part: I'd be very happy to have a sheath included (no clip or stap required) and would gladly pay a bit more for that. That said, I like the minimal price/"ship it naked" approach, too. Thanks for all the great tools, Sal!

Mine will get carried as soon as I find some one to make/install handles and get a sheath made!! (SheathPro??) John

So, as I'm reading this thread, am I understanding it right that there will be a Swick 4 and 5; and a leaf shaped blade as well?

Hi Alnamvet,

Swick 3 is the current warncliffe. Swick 4 will be a leaf (same blade length and handle). The Swick 4 will be provided with a black Boltaron slip sheath. I carried and used the "3" today. (in a slip sheath in my pocket) Mostly cutting up boxes. It's working well. It's a good blade shape for that type of work.

Sheathpro@aol.com is where I got mine, and I am assuming she is the one who will be making the Boltaron sheaths for the 4 and possibly the production model too, whenever that comes around.

Still loving the 3 and can't wait for the 4...

Thank you sir for the reply. I ordered the 3 yesterday, and liked the idea that I could have my own sheath made up, and the price was right. Personally, I would like the 4 to come without a sheath, unless of course, the price increase is minimal. I do prefer the leaf shape with jimping in the choil area as these two features are what make my Dragonfly feel and perform like a much larger knife. Thank you for resurrecting a model that I missed the boat on, twice no less.
