Swimming Pool Green G11?

Hi everybody,

I used to live around these parts (BladeForums) a long time ago, just recently coming back through. I finally picked up a Hinderer XM-18 (3.5", spanto, blue/black) last year, which quickly became my favorite knife and gets carried everywhere. Perusing the photos in this forum (a dangerous thing to do) has since led me to pick up a set (minus clip) of blue Ti hardware, and, more recently a dark green scale and some bronze Ti hardware to go with it (finishing with a pivot screw just now).

There was some fabulously lurid G11 stock around, a couple years back, in a color called "Swimming Pool Green" (a much more intense green that RHK's "pale green G10", but not neon like a canonical zombie-themed "toxic green"), which showed up in aftermarket scales for some other knives. I was under the impression that the supply of G11 sheets in that shade of green had dried up, but some googling the other day suggests that either the same or similar colors are still somewhat available (I didn't dig very far - the first place I saw had a 500 kilogram minimum and that, uh, doesn't fit with my needs).

Has RHK ever put out any scales using this material? I think it'd be a lovely combination. How often do new colors of XM-18 scales appear? Or is the set of available colors pretty unchanging?

Cheers,
Carl

It's called the elusive Pond Scum scale.... Doesn't make it anymore. It was a one time oops thing hence the elusive. It's called G10 not G11. Anyways welcome back :D

Thanks guys, but the I've seen Pond Scum G10 (in pictures), and that's not what I'm after - I really am asking about "Swimming Pool Green G11". And it really is G11 - sort of a cousin of G10, with improved resistance to high temperatures (the fact that it's G11 vs. G10 doesn't interest me, but that particular shade of green color does).

Hey KJ & DPR, thanks for the quick replies and eagerness to help - glad to see the place hasn't changed too much :)

Yeah I agree with Jensen. That's only other one I could think of...

Good to "meet" you and welcome back to BF. Jensen is right, the trans green is as close as you will get from RHK but is kinda close in my opinion.

Is this what you are referring to? This is "swimming pool" green from Kevin Wilknis.

^ This. The only Swimming Pool green scales I'm aware of. Unfortunately Wilkins only makes scales for Griptilians and Delicas. I have one of the above on a mini grip - it's a cool/unique color.

I was also going to add that while the RH translucent scale isn't as vibrant as the Swimming Pool green, it's still a very sweet color. If I have a chance I will try to take a photo to compare.

I have an RHK translucent scale on one of my safe queens that was somewhat of a middle ground from the typical translucent and that swimming pool green you posted about, I'll have to dig it out and take a picture this weekend of it with a standard translucent.

Here you go. Had to take a few photos of an item I'm selling, so I took a few photos. The RH translucent green scale is closest to Wilkins Pale Green (see photos) and as you can see Swimming Pool Green is a lot brighter. I actually think I prefer the W Pale Green and the RH scales the best. The RH scale is very classy looking and really cool looking in person. Hope the photos help. Rick

Thanks guys! Rkdiddy, those pictures are great - particularly the last two - I can see that the Pale Green from Kevin Wilkens is very close to RHK's Translucent Green. But I do still like the Swimming Pool Green (that Kevin Wilkens has used for 3rd party scales for mostly Benchmades) the best - it's vivid, colorful, and unusual. A shame to hear that RHK has never used it.

So how often do new scale colors appear from RHK, then? :D

I'd love to see it!

OK, I know I promised this two weeks ago, but I finally stopped and took the time to take some pics (albeit not very good ones but the best you may typically see from me).

These are two of my Gen 2 3.5" XM-18s, both have translucent scales, one the standard variety you frequently see and the other the version I was talking about that is quite different.
