Swing Guards

I have a Queen Swing Guard in Amberbone
Lovely knife, but I don't carry it.
I find it too long for the relatively short blade

That's why I like the cub. I think of it as a small slipjoint and use it as such. It just happens to lock. But they are super thin and easy in the pocket. I don't carry the big ones. I agree, they are more of a novelty for me.

I really enjoyed reading this thread.
I've never seen this kind of reaction to a knife pattern.
Everybody "kind of" likes them, but nobody wants to carry one.
Swing guards are the fat girl at the dance :)

LOL. Like scooters and fat girls...fun to ride, but you don't want to be seen on one. (sorry, bad biker joke...yours was better)

I love them, dont carry them.Well, the carbon one with the pits has seen pocket time as has the orange converted automatic.I especially like the saber grinds they did in the 70's and before.

One of the few patterns (along with canoes) that just doesn't do it for me on any level. Funny how that works...Well, there's plenty more to choose from

I love swing guards but I find that certain manufacturers (Case and Queen come to mind) that make them seem give their swing guards less attention to fit and finish than their other offerings. I have yet to handle a swing guard with near flawless fit and finish similar to Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw, Cold Steel etc..

They all seem to have been quickly and crudely put together.

Is this common among most other knife companies as well? Keep in mind I am not talking about customs or costly semi customs.

Even a more expensive german made AG Russell swing guard that I handled was not top quality in the fit and finish department. It was decent don't get me wrong but if was still far from silky smooth with zero blade play.

Funny you should mention F&F, both the cubs I posted had blades way off center (a pet peeve of mine) and one had a big scratch on the blade. Sent one back and plan to send the other.

Don, sweet knives!

Elliot, I don't like canoes either. Don't know why...same thing, they just don't appeal to me.

I guess if we ever find ourselves up the creek without a paddle we'll both know why...;)

As far as poor f&f ,i dont really agree, but i would say they are a much more complicated knife to build with the mid locking backspring and the nightmare folding guard. No wonder they gave up the saber grind, even though i sure wish they had not.

I carry one from time to time, I don't know why, but I like this pattern-the Case stag has seen the most pocket time:
