Black Razor,
I have two SAKs; a relatively new Tinker, and one (same features as the current Tinker) that I received as a graduation present in 1969. That one was carried through eight years in the army, to include a Nam tour. I am still amazed that I never lost it or it's companion Buck 112 in the bush...
Back on topic- the old SAK is still in great shape and in fact is in my pocket right now. I agree, the blades don't hold an edge as well (ditto for the new one) as a good production folder, but 20 or so strokes on the Sharpmaker always bring it back quite nicely. I carry this knife mainly for the tooth pick/tweezers/screw drivers/can opener/etc. functions, and to cut anything I don't want to risk the Spydie blade on...[G]
I'm carrying the old one instead of the new one because it is definitely smaller overall. These two knives were purchased 30 years apart, but have the exact same features apart from the new knife being slightly larger overall and having a key ring attachment point. Dunno what kind of steel, but it DEFINITELY is corrosion-resistant and stays reasonably sharp.
I guess the best testimonial is that, if I could only carry one of the several knives I own, this would be it. It's just a hard-to-beat handy tool. Personal protection is what God made guns for...[G]
BTW, I track with you totally on the questions you raised in your Sebenza thread. I handled one; nice knife, but certainly no better than my Spyderco C48. FWIW, you'll get the same comments you read on your thread from Emerson-philes about THEIR favorite knife. I had one of them too; again, a nice knife, but certainly not the ultimately superior folder that some of "The Usual Suspects" would have you believe it is- he said, donning his Nomex and getting ready for the flame-fest...[BFG]
