Sword Edge Tempering

Sure wish there were some photos remaining of these earlier Katanas with the handle and pommel tsuba and such. This evolution of the Katana is truely fascinating. Im trying my best to picture these pieces. Glad they didnt give it up:thumbup:

So how authentic are HI Katana these days in terms of shape and balance? I know they started with an Edo-period katana, but have they changed much from that base other than the handle?

note the reverse curve as it enters the water, and watch it re-curve itself in the 'correct' config. as it cools. a function of the geometry and the differential cooling that the smiths take into account before the hardening/tempering process.
