I'm interested in making a sword (zombie slayer). I would like some help on locating s7. I can get 80crv2 at aldo's but pht says that they couldn't heat treat it
any suggestions for heat treating 80crv2 or locating s7 would be appreciated.
thanks,guys

Check out flatground.com for S7.

Don't forget to call Aldo, he doesn't have any listed on his site but I have purchased some from him if I recall correctly.

I don't think the 80CrV2 was the problem with Peter's. It was probably the 36". Call Brad again and ask what the max length is. You may need to make the sword a tad shorter......I don't think it will be any less effective against Zombies.

IIRC, Paul Bos does long blades, but I don't know their length limit.

IIRC, Peters does have a size limit on oil quenched steels because they use a fluidized bed setup instead of one of their regular ovens. There is a place in Providence RI called Metallurgical Solutions that uses salt pots if you want to use S7. they also have induction machines that they say they use for zoned tempering of tangs of blades made from air hardening steel among other things.
