Last year I was contacted by art photographer Kevin Rolly to make a sword for an oil canvas/photography mural project depicting the Book Of Judges. You can see some of this work here (not for the faint of heart!): http://www.kevissimo.com/series/in-the-time-of-the-judges/

The scene I was to make the sword for was that of Ehud assassinating the King of Eglon. The verses have very specific dimensions for the sword.. but the rest is up to the imagination of the reader. Kevin wanted to have something raw and rough.. something that he made in haste to 'get the job done'. The wood is stabilized drift wood.

Here is the first of the murals showing my sword...

Here is the picture of the sword that I took.... which I posted here a long time ago:

Very interesting experience seeing my work in such a context!

That is cool Scott it looks as though he even added some cracks to it in the painting.

Kevin Rolly's art is truly amazing and your contribution
is no doubt a fascinating project - especially after seeing
it all come together!

Thank you Scott also for the link to Kevin's art.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I remember this from Don Fogg's site. It's a great looking sword and boy, Kevin Rolly's art is very inspiring. Amazing work. I can see how your style and his have similarities. A collaboration seems a natural fit.

Fascinating story, captivating art work and a beautiful sword. Well done!

Roger

Thanks a lot folks... This was a lot of fun and I would love to do more stuff like this for film.

Your right David.. He appears to have not only cracked it.. but hollow ground it! The swords from this time period were actually bronze with a raised ridge... so his version looks more 'accurate' I guess. And I'm guessing Ehud water quenched without interruption hence the cracks. :-)
