What's up guys. I'm looking for something a little different - I've never been able to find something like I'm looking for yet.

I'm looking for a shortish sword, about 26" total length. Enough handle to double grip the handle with ease. Mostly for slashing / light chopping, but I want as straight a blade as possible (IE, not heavily curved). Single bladed.

Anyone got any ideas?

- Mark

The Ninpo ones are a bit long still - I don't mind the Japanese style swords at all (got a couple of them already), but it's still too long for what I'm looking for.

Something with a 11"-12" handle and a 15" or so blade.....

A whole foot is much longer than any handle than I've ever seen on a blade like you're describing. I honestly don't see the point.

Might as well get a machete with a 18 in. blade and find some way to make the handle longer. Hurrah for epoxy and duct tape.

Consider the Busse Ruck Kensei. 15” blade. 23” overall. Tough as all get-out. Unfortunately, not cheap as all get-out.

You want a Messer. Not to be confused with a grosse or langes messer, but the shorter single-handed ones. You might have one custom made with a longer handle.

You didn't specify thickness of the blade or the type of impacts it was to withstand or handle material, but I can do something like what you've described in banite 86670m or 5160 for about 300 bucks Canadian.

The Kris Cutlery Ninja-To is a little larger than your specs:

The Cheness Ko Katana is a better choice but it is curved and also a little long.

Short swords with long handles are unusual. I know that some people used to take a full length unsharpened replica katana SLO, take off the handle, and turn it into a long-handled and short-bladed practice/demo SLO. With a little extra work you could probably do that with an inexpensive carbon steel katana or ninja-to.

You might also be able to turn this naginata blade into a sword, shortening the tang so it meets your length requirements:

Isn't there an African thing like a combination spear/sword? Shaft too short for a spear, tip too long. Don't know the actual dimensions, but seems like it might be along the lines you're looking for. Sorry not to be more help.

According to Wikipedia what I was thinking of is a short assegai sometimes called an ikwa or ixwa.

Not sure if they'd be what you're lookin' for, but maybe an HI short tibetan or Bhutan sword... or a Valiant Baiwan sword:

Still looking around. Not quite ready to buy yet anyways :-)

I got a HI Kukri - one of the thinner bladed, medium length ones. Pretty sweet at a good price :-) That'll tide over my hack and stab tendencies for a bit until I find the right sword :-)
