Sword vs. Knife: a true story.

Thanks for posting the link, Paracelsus. Man, what a wretched occurrence. From the article, it looks pretty clear that nobody has considered the sword or the victim that used it to be in the wrong. Duh. A very clear case of self-defense. I for one am glad that somebody was able to take the sword off the display and stop the massacre before anyone died. No fear of any crusade to take away our swords here.

Wow, this is fascinating. Each of the articles that I read described the incident as follows:

A Florida woman was attacked by her ex-boyfriend in the street outside her home. She was stabbed, but managed to fight him off and lock herself in her house. When the assailant attempted to break down the door, the woman grabbed a sword that was in the house and ran her assailant through as he came charging through the broken door. No mention was made of any other victims.

One of the articles, as I stated above, went on to discuss the District Attorney's refusal to prosecute homeowners who successfully fend off home invaders and the LE chief's angry disbelief that the female victim would not be charged in the case.

The articles have to be describing the same incident- I mean how many knife wielding assailants are run through by a sword wielding victim in Florida in a given week? So, I can't understand the enormous discrepancies.

I guess it just shows to go ya that you can't trust anything you read in the media.

Hmm...

Out of the thousands of people that I know who own swords,I think that about 90% of them are liberal. And truthfully,it's not always the liberal side of government that would attempt to take away everyone's right to own a type of weapon just because a few morons used that type in some crime. There have been attempts made from every political faction to do things like this in the past.
The federal government wouldn't bother with an issue like this unless it was so out of control in the public that they'd be forced to step in.Any laws enacted upon swords would first come from either the city or county government,or possibly the state government.
Several states already have laws concerning certain types of martial arts weaponry, but none that I know of have a law against medieval swords...only crossbows from the same period. The thing that most governments would look at in the first place is..how much money does the state get off taxes from sales of medieval swords? In some states, there's a heavy amount of sales going on,thanks to the SCA,Rennies, and fencing groups. These groups would also pack a punch during election time if any politician (moron) decided to attempt a ban on swords in general.I don't think many states would really attempt anything drastic.

In the case of the female defending herself, any idiot who thinks that she should be charged for anything is a complete and utter moron.Too many lawyers are getting paid good money to see that criminals are coddled.More of them should stand up for real justice and see that their clients do serve time for their idiocy.People that think this female should be charged with anything don't realize, that given a situation where their life is in possible danger, they'd probably grab a sword if it was at hand.Maybe that's all she had available to her at the moment,or the easiest thing to grab given the time available to her.Thing is,she had every right to defend herself against the threat of someone who was armed.Just because she did it with something larger than what the assailant had...

"Any idiot can point a gun and pull a trigger..it takes a decent amount of skill, speed and grace to use a sword to it's full potential."
