i have googled an googled and can't seem to find anything. all that pops up is the Ban in England and things like that.

i remember a case where a guy was threatening cops with a Katana and they sprayed him with a fire hose (good thinking). i'm trying to find as many situations, like that, as i can. also looking for aggravated batteries, murders, robberies, and the like.

no worries, i'm not some anti digging for ammo supporting legislation. i'm really trying to see how often and under what circumstances edged weapons (larger than butcher knives) end up being used in a crime.

anybody have any info?

Haven't heard of any, except for one a couple of years back wherein a couple of guys with Katanas (?) stormed a government building in Japan as some form of protest.

Too long and unwieldy for a place such as Manhattan or Chicago, I would think.

It happens every once in a while. There have been a couple of high-profile defensive uses, sort of, too.

If you know what you're doing, it isn't hard to carry a sword around. The fact that you happen to live in an urban area does not affect that much.

It happened in Seattle. I can't remember the date though. I saw the video online but just can't remember where for the life of me. (I think that it could of been on break.com)

Plug the two words sword crime into a Google search. Then select news. Then notice archived or past news. You'll find plenty if you actually want to. It seems more of a conversational starter (read troll) than actual request but if so, don't forget that a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

There is a posting somewhere on this forum about a college student (in Boston, I think?) who killed a burglar with a sword.

nope, no trolling here :) honestly curious about the frequency of sword mis-use.... that's y i don't count the college kid, that wasn't mis-use it was self defense.

i didn't click on "news" when i googled. prolly why i didn't find much, i'll know next time.

Tedwca, wow, thanks.

I'm sorry if I am seem speculative and the somewhat incredulous attempts at using search tools such as Google. With over ten million hits for a web search alone of those two words on Google, it seems most would rather not bother with pursuing past the first page of such searches. To me, it seems a truth about the fast food preferences many use to research just about anything.

Might I suggest any viewing such forums look at the bottom of any thread index and viewing a board back to the beginning and not the forum defaults of a few days/weeks/months. The thread was finished on October 31 and in quite plain view if looking at this subforum back to the beginning (while lost if ignoring default views). On the user control panels of most boards is also an option to elect the thread view time lines, set from a day to forever.

Again, my own judgment of how many may look at boards (or information in general) in a quite superficial interest overall.
