synthetic Knife oil

Found it by accident after I had cleaned a knife, takes only a couple specks if the tolerances are tight.

For lubrication:
Nano Oil.
WeaponShield.
Tuff Glide.

In that order.

For rust prevention:
WeaponShield
TuffGlide
Nano Oil.

What weight Nano Oil do you use? I'm looking to get a 1/2 ounce bottle but it comes in 5, 10, and 85.

I have the 10w. I'm thinking about getting some 5W to mix with my WeaponShield (improve the lube quality of the WS and improve the rust prevention of Nano Oil), but I've read a couple folks' reviews of using the 85W almost like a grease: disassemble the knife, put some on the washers/bearings/pivot and reassemble. It stays and doesn't run anywhere.

the best way to apply would be to:
1-back off the pivot screw to allow capillary action to deliver all the way to the post,
2-close the knife,
3-then tap in your hand to send the oil even further
4-re torque pivot screw to fully solid
5-open and close a few time
6- back off 1/32 or less turn at a time until desired smoothness is attained.

Why synthetic? Buy a quart of straight mineral oil. Your blades will never know.

Good lubricant (it's used in some pinewood derby races), but how does it do with rust prevention?

Your non-stainless blades will know when rust starts to form, and it is not that great of a lubricant compared to many of these specialty lubricants.

Krytox.
Good lubricant (it's used in some pinewood derby races), but how does it do with rust prevention?
Depends on what kind of Krytox it is, I guess. :eagerness:

I use:
  • DuPont Krytox GPL 105 Oil to lubricate stainless knives & tools.
  • Eezox to prevent rust.
  • Break free CLP as a compromize.
