synthetic Knife oil

Krytox.

Depends on what kind of Krytox it is, I guess. :eagerness:

I use:
  • DuPont Krytox GPL 105 Oil to lubricate stainless knives & tools.
  • Eezox to prevent rust.
  • Break free CLP as a compromize.

I'm more familiar with Krytox 100 and NyOil for pinewood derby axles. Eezox sucks as a lubricant, but short of a wax used to preserve metal, there isn't much else I would trust more than Eezox for rust prevention. CLP is a good compromise, but as often as I use my knives, I have found WeaponShield to be a better compromise.

I'll trust your judgement any time, Loonybin.
I have read all the tests, you have done and I am deeply impressed with your work.
Can you be more specific about why you have found WeaponShield to be a better compromise than Break Free CLP?

FYI: See Loonybin's excellent work: A not-so-little rust prevention test: round 2.

Wow, thank you! Since I tend to maintain my knives on a more frequent basis than once in a blue moon, the rust prevention advantage of CLP isn't of much concern for me. I have found WeaponShield to be considerably better at lubrication than CLP (which does a good job), and it's rust prevention is also excellent. The added lubricity outweighs the small loss of rust prevention for my maintenance schedule. Someone who lets their knives sit for ages without using/maintaining them may find that CLP is better for them. In addition, I have only one knife in carbon steel (CPM-M4), and the rest are M390 or s30v. Rust really is a non-issue for me, so I tend to use Nano-Oil for lubrication. I've found nothing better for lubing a knife pivot. When my 51 Morpho arrives, it will get Eezox on the blade and WeaponShield in the pivots since it is D2. I might use FrogLube on the blade, but I leave that for any kitchen knives since it is supposed to be safer for food prep.

Daiwa Reel oil in it's needle tipped tube.
CRK grease.
Frog Lube for it's food safe use and rust preventive features.

I use a brand called Super Lube.

On stainless knives which I often disassemble I use their PTFE [teflon] containing synthetic grease (FDA approved for incidental food contact) on the pivot (and mineral oil on the blade if I'm putting the knife into storage).

On non-stainless knife and knives which can't be broken down I use a their synthetic oil (FDA approved for direct food contact) on both the pivot and blade.

I've tried many different products, frog lube, M-Pro 7, sentry solutions, CPL, all of which work great but Super Lube is the best I've ever found for my needs/the way I maintain my knives.

Thank you, Loonybin. That was just the kind of answer, I was looking for. :applouse:
This is why:

Now, I'll have to think of a way to get some WeaponShield, without being robbed...
I live in Denmark, so shipping, taxes and fees can easily more than triple the costs!!!

Best regards,
Jens
