This is vulcanized fibre on a Robeson.

Since quite a bit of effort went into researching the knife, here was what I came up with on the material:

Vulcanized fiber is one of the earliest forms of plastics. A simple explanation is that It is made by soaking paper in zinc chloride, stacking and compressing it. The zinc chloride dissolves the cellulose fibres in the paper and when dried it bonds together forming one vulcanized or hard rubber sheet. It was (and still is) widely used in many industries.

The black color is obtained by adding "lamp black" to the mixture. Lamp black is an old school term for pigment made from soot.

Thank you for the history lesson. To me sometimes the history behind the knives is just as interesting as the knife itself.
 

Do you have a version of the yellow micarta with the hump lock without any locks? Im trying to see if Ken had made other versions. So far, waynorth waynorth has it in stag. I managed to snag one in ebony.
