The issue over tip strength does interest me. As I intend to use my 'normal' plain edge 440V Mil as a real 'worker' I am interested to hear any stories over the Mil and how its tip holds up.

Thanks

I think something that few mention when discussing tip strength is tip sharpness/ease of penetration. It is a give and take situation. I know good and well that the Military has a delicate tip, but I like it that way! I would rather have a high performance tip. My Military doesn't see work that would endanger the weak tip.

Thanks rockspyder!

Great story! I managed to slightly flatten the tip on my BM 812 in M2 the other day. Opening a box and cutting down into it. It went through the material faster than I expected and whack right into a glass topped counter. Well the glass is about 1 inch thick and the knife took a chip out of it. The tip took about 50 passes on a steel to minimise the damage and I then used the sharpmaker to bring the point back. This part took a fair while. Still it did not chip out or roll on me, it just kinda flattened out. BTW I was using a lot of force when it went. I pulled the hit, but I am surprised the glass top did not shatter

I have just bought a Native lightweight as well. All in all I am getting more confidence with the S60V that Spyderco uses. I have also ordered a Starmate

I really like Spyderco blades and S60V is becoming my next choice to M2.

Once again I am agreeing with Shootist. The Wegner is the ultimate Spyderco for the outdoorsman or hunter. The shape of the blade is ideal for skinning, and it feels comfortable in my hand. Check one out, I think you will like it.
