Szabohawk- D2 Spyderco Hawk!

Why's that?

From the admittedly little I know about metallurgy, D2 is not an ideal choice for impact resistance which I would assume is the primary task for an axe/hawk.

However, I understand this is not a heavy-duty splitting maul that needs to withstand punishing impact over and over again. I am sure it will be a neat tool!

I've seen many chopping style knifes in D2. I have a Kershaw Outcast that isn't for much more than chopping. I thought D2 was the next best of 1095

I've wondered the same thing. I'm guessing they're trying to use the toughest steel that's at least decently corrosion resistant while trying to keep the price within reach for most people. I'm a little surprised they didn't use something like PSF27 considering the spray forming process was supposed to make the end price relatively cheap while putting the toughness of D2 up close to A2. Regardless, the design seems spot on as tactical-ish tomahawk.

I'll grab 1im sure! I'd still like to pick up one of the folders with the satin blade and a ulize and something in the salt line and 2 or 3 others so I'm behind a bit!

I wonder how many peeps will buy this and just hang it to the wall just like a movie prop...
The steel choice is rather moot in this case.
Anyway i wouldnt wail on it nor try to throw this one, and that big hole with tiny walls looks like it will snap.
Really not impressed, to me tactical means you can use it not only to chop human ribcages but also to smack wood and whatnot...

Depending on price I may get 2 and remove the scales and wrap in paracord and give it some throws and a good beating? Those are the thing I'd see giving and still I bet they would take a beating for awhile! As for the D2 I think it will do fine! Will it replace other Hawks of mine? No! Will it add to my collection of Hawks and find its way out with me as they all do sure. If nothing else it may just be one of those odd balls that years from now someone may ask does anyone have....and you can say Yep I do or did depending on if you keep it around.

3V or Vanadis would have been stupid expensive. PSF27 is as tough as A2 with higher edge retention and more corrosion resistance, right? That would have been cool but I don't know about impact toughness or lateral strength in a half an inch thick slab of metal. L6 or M4? What about 5160 or 4140? Probably not enough marketing hype. CTS-B52. That's the ticket. Call the tomahawk the B52 bomber. Anyway, I think half an inch thick D2 will probably be damned tough, moderately corrosion resistant, moderately inexpensive, and it's a steel that a lot of people know and trust.

My very good BF Hawk fiend buddy, just told me about this (soon to be released), Spyderco Szabohawk. It look's awesome!

Edit:
My sincerest apologies! I stumbled upon this thread, via Google, as I was researching this new Szabohawk (having no idea that I was on the Spyderco maker forum). I in no way, meant to start any type of debate/controversy over 2 very soon to be released Tomahawk's, & have since moved my question to the appropriate forum (Knife Discussions).

Thank you!
