I have a T M Dowell I want to sell but do not know its worth. Can anyone tell me how to determine a good sale price?

Knife is 10 inches and has a hairline fracture on the bottom of the handle (I think it is elkhorn) starting at the brass guard.

5/21/07 Just got a letter from T M Dowell verifying that knife was made in Jan. '71, is a Model 6, 5 inch blade, with a stag handle, and brass hilt. T M said the hairline fracture is insignificant and will not worsen.

Judging by the stamping being on the hilt, the knife is most likely late 1960's. Around the early 1970's Ted started putting a button in the handle with his mark. The handle appears to be India stag, not eldk horn. Ted Dowell is still around and making knives - age 78. Give him a call, he is listed in Knives 2006,and he or his wife Betty can fill you in on more of the details of the knife. They kept very detailed records on their knives and the original buyers. Also, he quit making blades over 4 or 5 inches early on.

I have an old hunter he made in 1968, one of two he made in the style with a 5+ inch blade.

Hope this helps.
