Paul Moore is in the process of making my first handmade. At just under 12", 6 1/2" by 3/16" blade, acid etched , & carved out (flinted look) micarta handle it truly is the "King of the reptiles!"
I hunt gators & snakes with knife only, so we wanted blade to be Reptillian also! Will have it in time to go Python hunting in the evergaldes April 9th. Will send pics for sure.
He pretty much finished the blade yesterday, now he's making the horizontal sheath! Can't wait to get it!:D

Oh that is sweet! That thing looks like it could survive a bomb blast. Very nice blade shape

Thanks psycho & Billy. It's my first handmade to own, & now I know why most people that get a handmade pretty much leave the Manufactured blades alone. There is no comparison. Thanks Men, Be Blessed!

This is a hellofa working knife. Cool action shots and beautiful country. Makes me hungry for roasted hot dogs and beer.

...wait, you do what? :D

That is a truly awesome blade! I love the look of it, the handle looks awesome, and it is indeed a reptilian blade!

That's a nice looking hard use knife. Just an observation though, it looks like there is nearly an inch of blade that isn't hardened (near the choil). That's definitely something to be very careful of.

Thanks Nick!
What makes the blade near the choil appear to be un-hardened?
The blade is a v edge from choil to belly of re-curve, then more of a covex edge.
Paul hardens the entire blade, (spine about 58 edge aboot 60 RW)
Thanks for your comments my brother!

Very cool knife! Looks like the quench and heat treat came out well by the way that cuts!

Also like the little forge! I wonder did he post a pic of that of the "Forge Gallery" On the D. Ellis site? The bolt handles for legs look familiar.

Thanks for noticing the way it cuts, if there was a problem with it, I would already have noticed,(hard use knife)
Don't know about the forge,I will ask. GOD Bless!

Hey again, :) Hope it didn't seem like I was trying to pee in your cheerios with my post. It was just some information for folks that may not realize it.

If you look at photo 6 and 8 you can clearly see the hardened area of the blade and it stops short of the choil. This is made easier to see by the fact that the blade has been etched.

My guess is he either edge quenched the blade, did an interupted quench, or didn't soak the blade at austenitizing temp for very long.

Overall it's a really nice knife! Just be mindful of that last bit of edge as it won't abrade the same as the rest of the edge. :)
