I happened on a good local source for spring steel....but I've never heard of it. I though it would be 5160H but my research indicated it is T6160. It is in the form of new leaf springs for autos and trucks. Has anyone had any experience with the stuff?

I assume the 'T' means HT'd. 61xx series is a Cr + small amount of V. 6150 is the most common as far as I know and it can be HT'd like and has similar performance to 5160.

+1 to mete's post. I've made some big whoppers out of 6150. It seems to make a real tough, big blade. I'm curious how your steel would compare.

Thanks guys...it is heat treated already. I'll try it and see how it goes.
