I cut the slot, then used the factory table to figure out the screw placement. My table is 1/4" stainless... definitely the way to go 
I wired a box that has a receptacle that's always hot, and the other receptacle can be turned on and off with a switch. The second one is what the saw is plugged into, and then I put a pipe clamp on the saw's trigger to keep it on.
