Tablesaw Accident

Twice a piece about the size of a knife handle block has hit me in the chest but neither one broke the skin.

1. Use push sticks as the others have suggested.
2. Don't stand directly behind the work piece, stand off to the side.
3. The far end of the table saw fence should be angled slightly away from the blade. If the far end of the fence is angled toward the blade or the fence is perfectly parallel to the blade you stand a much greater chance of getting kick back.

Glad you're ok man!

I learned to use a table saw at 10 years old from my dad. There was no other piece of wood-working equipment that scared me.... all the stories he told me of pieces of wood being shot out like bullets and leaving holes in the garage wall :O

He has no middle finger nail on his left hand from a router 30 years ago, luckily that was all he lost

Damn... These wood working tools are freakin dangerous... I like my work pieces securely held in a machine vice, and my hands nowhere near the cutter. I actually slit my scales on a mill with a slitting saw. *shrug*

At the shop where I went to school, the table saw was responsible for the worst shop injury in the school's history. The kid cuts some fingers off. The surgery to reattach them was not successful because they didn't heal well and he ultimately lost them. He lost four fingers.

a couple years back I had a tablesaw kick back on me when I was cutting a piece of butcher block. the piece hit so hard it broke my arm. I am just thankful it didnt hit me in the head! now I treat my tablesaw with the fear and respect it deserves!!

glad your injury was not any worse,, get well soon

Hope it heals quickly, Page.
Had a piece of plywood get kicked back into my belly.
It cut a slash into a wide leather belt I was wearing,
and left me with a bruise for weeks.
