Finished this one up, not really where I wanted to go with this piece, but it was good enough to finish. Tactical styling and construction modeled after Wally Hayes' tac katana with a few changes, full tang with leather slabs glued on with black parachord wrapped and epoxied tight, satin finish, 5160 through hardened. Tsuba is 1/4" thick with the rim upset and some chiseled design not after anything specific. Rings like a bell when cutting. It is Hira Zukuri with moderate Niku. The whole sword is TIGHT.

That's a great looking tactical sword! I like the tactical wrap you did on the handle and the way it tapers toward the middle. The upswept line of the blade gives it a very intimidating look. The tsuba fits the overall design. Good job Sam. What is the handle and blade length?

Thanks Niko! Specs are:

35 3/8" overall
26 3/8" blade including the integral habaki
25" of "blade" not including the integral habaki
8 3/4" of grip
1/2" of sori

I didn't think anyone would notice the hourglass shape handle, good eye!

With the "tac" label, I wasn't expecting to care for this at all... but I was dead wrong! Great work!

Just my two pesos, but I wouldn't call this a "tac" katana, as the appearance to me is more like a fantasy barbarian katana, somewhat. I think it looks like something an eastern warrior would use in one of the Conan books/films.

And I don't mean that in a negative way at all. I really dig this sword.

Very nice. I really like it. Definitely something that I'd carry to kill 'em zombies.

That looks great Sam! You'll be well prepared when the zombies come.

By the way, your second image isn't showing up because you left off the closing bracket on the "/img".

Thanks guys!!! I forgot I posted this here, I feel like an idiot.

Chris, thanks for the image help.

Wolf1989, thanks I take the Conan comment as a BIG COMPLIMENT!

Jason, CHECK YOUR EMAIL :D

I wouldn't mind having something like this myself. You know....for when the Zombies come...and they will.

I loved the handle, but im wondering, due to the horrible screen resolution im using, what was the hourglass made out of?

VERY nice looking blade. If I didn't have other things going on I'd ask about getting one from you.

Take care.
Jason

Great looking kat! How did you go about making it? Is it something I could make for myself?
