Tac tool inquiry

I just noticed that the BK3 doesn't have the extended pommel like the 2nd Gen BK2, BK7 or BK9. What's up with that? It seems like out of the three, this knife should surely have it.

Does the BK3 have a "skeletonized" tang under those scales like the above mentioned models, or is it like the 1st Gen BK2?

I'll get this thread back on track or die trying.

not sure what it would be used for on this model, but it provide more overall prying length...

the KaBar model i have is solid metal, no skeletonizing.

almost wish it didn't have that "seat belt cutter", really have never used it, except to try and cut some cardboard or light twine, and it didn't work very well (not very sharp). so it goes, eh?

Some dirty TT pics would be even better. youtube only has one video of this thing, and it is a Knives Town review.

The ones I have owned and handled recently did not have the tang extension. I guess Ethan figured you better not hit something that tough on the butt.;)

Seriously, full metal, .250 thick from tip to tang. Like I said, this dude weighs out heavy.

I gotta agree with you on the seatbelt cutter, too, Bladite, that thing sux. I figured with some ceramic rods you could get that cutter, cuttin', but factory? No way.

the literature says that the "cutter slot" is for wire and line. which, sure, makes sense... and you can hook into some broken safety glass and gently nibble away probably. suppose you could pop out certain types of nails with it.

it would be nifty if they made a next size up, longer, no cutter thing, and perhaps a few minor refinements, but the crowbar/tool market is pretty competitive, and it might not sell.

now, a MINI version, THAT would sell. actually, a MINI and a keychain model. those would sell like crack. just a guess :>

I recall the extended pommel on the 2, 7 and 9 being marketed as a hemmer implement or even a glass breaker. I would think that the BK3 would really benefit from this feature. However, at .25" overall, I can certainly see that this might be redundant and that this guy has no lack of hammer/smashing surfaces.

it IS the proverbial sharpened prybar right? :)

The Mythical Sharpened Prybar, others have claimed it, but not it is a reality shrouded in mystery. :) Moose

the wire cutter thingy also works well to open beer bottles and such - no beer bottle can resist it!

what the heck is that silver tactool? ive never seen that before ITS BEAUTIFUL where can i get one?(if at all possible?)

Its the Blackjack/Cincinatti BK3. The silver finish is the grandfather of the epoxy powder coat we use today. According to Ethan, its a finish, and that's all. You can get them from collectors, but get your checkbook ready. Maybe you can talk Bladite out of one. Yeah right:D. Good luck

I've been playing with my tactool alot lately. Seems to work fine for everything I do in the outdoors. Can even skin squirrels with it.

How do you sharpen a guthook?
Get a thick leather bootlace, stropping paste, and go to work, maintaining the edge.

Good call, I would have never thought of that. Nice, EB, very nice. There are a few things around here that are going to get that, and, I have some old leather laces around here as well. Thanks.

Just an updateI was finally able to handle one at cheaper than dirt. The knife was very well made and I did not doubt it's abilities in the least, however I decided not to get it and go with a Ontario SP8 only due to the fact I did not like the chisel grind only on one side of the blade. I am left handed and felt it was odd to me trying to cut on the opposite side. While I did pass on the tac tool I am loving my camillus BK7 and my kabar BK2 first gen. I think I am going to have to give the magnum camp a try.
