In journalism, there's the issue of libel, so every journalist learns to triple check the facts before anything gets printed in writing. I'm willing to bet that you did not check with Mike about the warranty card before you posted that in your review. And I have no problems with that because I would have done the same and assumed that was the case. But even without your website's review of the Tachyon, I would have been just as vocal is asking that Mike clarify this issue, because of all the reasons stated above. And if I was ready to buy the Tachyon, and was attracted to the features listed that are now impacted by the warranty card, I may be hesitatant to buy until the issue is clear. That's my right as a consumer.

I have the warranty card physically in my hand. All I reported in my review is what the warranty card says. I didn't feel the need to waste bandwidth on it, but, just for you, I will take a picture of the warranty card and add that to my review.

As I stated in my last post, Mike has already said that it's ok to swap and/or remove latches.

Don't bother as I have 9 of those from all the other MT knives in my possession, as well as the Tachyon Prototype. For all the other MT knives in my possession, I obey the warranty card and dare not take them apart, simply because I have not read anywhere that it's OK to do so.

Yes, but the warranty card say it's not OK. Mike also said it's OK for the user to swap the blades out, and that too is not OK per the warranty card.

Can you tell me why it's OK to disassemble the latch, per Mike, without knowing if the other users have the proper tools, the factory tolerances, and the necessary knowledge/skill? If Mike is willing to take a leap of faith on the latch, why are we so limited by the warranty cards disclaimer to not disassemble anything, or risk voiding the warranty?

WOW what a busy two days. Many of you will be very happy soon if you have not already received your Tachyon. Only Stone Wash has shipped so far and we are catching up very fast on all stone wash back orders.

Now for the warranty issue.

No big deal here guys and it is as was stated above. The warranty card is generic meaning it covers all MT knives and I did not think about that issue when I shipped the knives. So regardless of what the warranty card says here is how the warranty will work in regards to the Tachyon.

Disassembly of the knife, in and of itself will NOT void the warranty. If you lose or damage the busings or screws during this procedure there WILL be a charge to replace them. This includes the latch as well. All the knives are assumed to be shipped in perfect condition and obviously no screws are shipped stripped as they would not thread properly. So in that instance I would assume that if you get a stripped screw somehow, blame would have to be directed towards you. That is the only grey area I can see.

So in a nutshell you can disassemble any Tachyon completely without voiding your warranty. If you strip a screw or screw head while re-assemling the knife you WILL void the warranty on that part. I have seen MT and BM knives where people have tried to adjust the Torx pivot with a phillips head screwdriver and then claim they did not. Well in both instances MT and BM fixed the knife anyway so I think they did the right thing rather than argue who was at fault.

So take them apart and do with them as you will. I doubt there will be a big issue as there are so few parts to go wrong. There are no springs or levers. Just don't lose the screws or bushings and you should be just fine.

There is no way we can figure out who is properly trained to take apart and subsequently reconfigure a Tachyon. My main requirement will be in regard to using the correct tools and not so much the training. Also don't forget the bushings

Common sense is always a part of it as well.

Now that 'Da Man', aka Mike Thurber has spoken, let's everyone cool their jets and lets get on with the business at hand- having a good time here on the forums without the dark cloud of 'don't post that thought/opinion/question again.....???' The Tachyon is a fantastic piece of work and I hope everyone will agree with that....................
