I have and use both however I tend to lean towards pancakes as they just seem to have a more finished look to them, especially on larger knives.

Besides, you never know when you may need a canoe paddle.

Tacos. Always tacos over pancakes. Both the food and the sheath.

Taco sheaths because I like to have a minimum of material on my hip. I don’t ever lash anything to anything, so I don’t need or want the extra holes. Actual tacos over pancakes because, TACOS RULE!

Pancake for the large blades, Taco for small so I can Piggyback-em!
I did do a Pancake on the LMS just to see how it would work, and it fits just fine too!

Good point.

ETA: Although.... the setup with those with the piggyback knives could have been done with all tacos.

Yes Sir, absolutely. I just like the Pancake style on big blades so I have more attachment options to hook onto me or my pack.

My personal goal with a sheath is to make the overall profile as small as possible. I guess I’m OCD about unnecessary bulk/material. So for me I go taco.

Larger blades seem to end up pancake.....because....I’m not totally sure, but they just do lol.

I like the pancakes for sheaths, tacos for breakfast and lunch. I usually drink my supper. Having the option to position the Tek-Lok on the spine side is a big plus to me. It allows the blade to be pulled out at an angle that is away from my gutty-wuts a bit instead of setting me up for a Hairy Carey diet. I’d reckon pancakes make for a more solid base for danglers, too. Some of those taco rigs I’ve seen look a bit on the flimsy side.

I like both for different applications.

Pancake is superior for an open carry belt knife, or any exterior attachment (vests, tactical gear, backpacks). Just rides better, attachment is better (kydex at least).

Taco is better for pocket/iwb carry or other applications where attachment is only needed on one side, such as a utiliclip.

I make my own sheaths now and after making a bunch and testing them in a variety of applications (because I could make whatever I wanted)....that's the conclusion for how I found each works best for me.
