Hello.

I am a big bowie fan. I like SOG bowies and was wondering if any other companies make "tactical" bowies other than SOG. Any ideas?

Also, what other companies make good custom bowies? Tactical or not.

Thanks.

I`m kind of fond of this one. :D It`s 13" overall, 8" blade, 2" tall, and 1/4" thick, made from O1 steel, with ivory micarta and 6 brass pins. Weight is 1lb, 6oz

And one more shown with an original Remington derringer in .41 rimfire, and the "Dead Man`s Hand" of aces and eights.

That is beautiful! Looks like it'd make a great chopper for it's size.

Stomper's piece looks very functional!

Honestly, I've never been a fan of bowies and I'm not sure how "tactical" it is, but this one from Bark River made me sit-up and take notice. It looks like it might be "alive" in the hand -

I think Ontario made those Bagwell series of bowies. Not sure if they're still made, but they have a nice classic look to them. I think I recall reading that James Keating recommends or carries a type similar to these. I might be dead wrong on that though.
If you've got a grinder and are handy, it wouldn't be too hard to put a long clip point on lots of knives. Perticularlt drop points. Think of what a knife like the RTAK2 wound look like after grinding a clip point and adding a swedge to it. Wound be pretty sweet I think.

Fond of that one myself. Would have carried that any time in Iraq. Of course with a sheath to secure it better

The Bagwells have been discontinued but if you look around you can still find em . Love my gambler was workin on the handle last night took off the brass plates and sanded it down a bit so it fits my hand better dances in your hand.

Hi guys.

Great responses so far. Thanks for the information.

To answer a question, by "tactical" I'm referring to non-reflective blade coatings, micarta or synthetic handle material (waterproof), and a molle integrated sheath system.

I like the Bowie shape and design, but I'm not a big polished blade and stacked leather handle fan. OTOH, I like to retain the "idea" of these features.

For example, I really like the SOG tech Bowie (minus the handle), and I like how the handle on the SOG Trident is stacked micarta that nods to tradition but uses new materials.

I've been eyeing a Wilson Combat integral fighter and Chris Reeve Pacific lately. Any experience with these?

as an FYI though the ka-bars do come in a moulded black handle and have a 1095 carbon steel blade.

Check out the Scrapyard Regulator.
+1. Hard to argue with 7.5" of 1/3" thick 52100-B with a Jerry Busse differential heat treat and a lifetime warranty for what should cost around $150.00 or less.
