I really like prepping food with my spyderco Mili Plain Edge or my BM Nimravus combo edge!.... The mili is great for cutting meat but those serrations on the combo edge make one heck of a cheese knife. Does anyone else cook with their non kitchen knives?

I've tried it, but my kitchen knives are MUCH more competent.

No. And I don't baton with my kitchen knives! :D Right tool for the right job.

Of course my kitchen knives aren't as awesome as HwangJino's! But they are very good.

My HI seax is great for sandwich construction! lol

No doubt it is! :D All I'm saying is that I have always wondered why people who have great knives and who are passionate about knives, would have junk knives in the kitchen. Not saying you do....but you see a lot of that around here.

I sadly don't have any kitchen cutlery good or bad... some cheap steak knives... but for preparation I use Moras. I should probably look into kitchen knives.

I like Moras. But they are terrible for food prep. Ever slice an onion or carrot with one?!? You owe it to yourself as a knife guy to get a decent chef's knife, like a Wusthof or Henckels. I know HwangoJino is probably wincing in agony at the very mention of those brands. :D But my Henckels has been cutting like an animal for 25+ years now.

The Millie is my GOAT EDC. Excellent for food as well indeed! Less than a month to spring! :)

I use a wustof at home! Not my favorite, but it has its uses.

Henckels and wustof are perfect for the home, easy maintenence, has decent steel and hefty enough for almost any task

My Japanese chef knives are super light and super sharp, but require care and knowledge of use.

I just picked up an AG Russell Hocho.
It does alright for what it is but the clip is in an uncomfortable place. I'll never carry it in my pocket anyway so that will be removed. It will be part of my car camping kit. My hiking kit folding knife is much lighter.
It's got good weight and the design works better than a typical pocket folder as it allows rocking while chopping without my fingers contacting the board.
Any sharp knife will cut food and there will always be someone touting their pocket blade as an efficient food prep knife but face it, it's no kitchen knife and will never perform like a knife that was designed for the job.
Compared to my Lum large Chinese after some chili prep. :)

Definitely going to check those out, thanks!

just used my fixed kabar warthog to quarter a flatbread pizza...it worked :D

Agreed. We have a decent set of kitchen knives, not ultra expensive or s nice as HwangJino's but not cheap, either. A good set of kitchen knives make work in the kitchen a lot easier. That said, I have used a couple of my knives in the kitchen just to play, but that has been very rare and never with my better knives. When I worked shiftwork in the field, I often used my work knife to cut up food at work as there was no place to keep kitchen utensils.

I've used my ZT 0121 for some food food prep before. Did a better job than the terrible knives i did have. My sister got me a chefs knife and a paring knife for Christmas so no more edc blades in the kitchen for me. The paring knife is a farberware and i cant remember what the chefs knife is. Ill update when i get home and get a photo of them along with the knife my brother gave me for Christmas.

I feel that someone has to suggest the Tops TSK: Tactical Steak Knife.

No, I don't have one, but I'm thinking of buying the wife one since she loves to cook but has to be convinced of the "need" for more knives.

No need to dirty up my folders. I've been using a kitchen knife set from ESEE. They're not bad at all, especially for the low price.

Ehhh... Not really.
If I'm at someone's house or a restaurant, and the knives suck, then yes.
But other than that, it's pretty tough to clean a folder, so no.

I did a little prep for a batch of chili with a Spyderco XHP Mule. I knew it was sharper than my wife's kitchen knives and I wanted to see how it would work. After this trial batch with 1.5 lbs of meat, I made a batch for my office with 6 lbs of meat. Cubing 6 lbs of meat took a long time for a non-cook like me.
