Tactical Cooking Knives!

I cook with my classic #1 all the time... Its not so bad cutting onions if you cut them like a grid.... Carrots though... Ya not so good.
I like Moras. But they are terrible for food prep. Ever slice an onion or carrot with one?!? You owe it to yourself as a knife guy to get a decent chef's knife, like a Wusthof or Henckels. I know HwangoJino is probably wincing in agony at the very mention of those brands. :D But my Henckels has been cutting like an animal for 25+ years now.

Agreed. We have a decent set of kitchen knives, not ultra expensive or s nice as HwangJino's but not cheap, either. A good set of kitchen knives make work in the kitchen a lot easier. That said, I have used a couple of my knives in the kitchen just to play, but that has been very rare and never with my better knives. When I worked shiftwork in the field, I often used my work knife to cut up food at work as there was no place to keep kitchen utensils.

I agree but isnt there some sort of "fun factor" involved with using your edc?

I use them all the time. Especially now, where I've moved from my ex into a new place with no kitchen knives.

I think cooking with EDC knives is a lot of fun, and a great way to know your blade better.

Yes sir! I've used my Becker, moras, etc for cooking. I get bored and on long winters like this sometimes I have to get my bushcraft blades out for some play....even if it's just prepping dinner in the kitchen.

Forgot to upload this one as well :)

Camping in Burgundy, France, Summer 2013, drinking French red wine and eating French Camembert on French baguette :D

What are those chopstick/pokers on the right?
I'm sorry, I do not understand what you are talking about. There are no chopsticks or pokers whatsoever. Further, the only thing I see on "the right" is shadows and a little glass of red wine... Perhaps you could edit your post to elaborate, then I'll edit mine with the answer. And If you were referring to the pic of HwangJino on the previous page (you should have stated that) they are on the left. So...?

While I may not cook or prep food with my folders that much, I do use my folders to eat food. Instead of fork and knife, I use knife and knife haha.

Absolutely. In fact, I said, "That said, I have used a couple of my knives in the kitchen just to play". Perhaps that isn't clear, but by "my knives" I'm actually refering to my EDC knives. And therein lies the fun factor. ;)

Lol I was thinking the same thing... Ps what the heck was i thinking? I shoulda got a mili a long time ago. h

I build trails for a living, and am either living out of a cabin, hotel, or tent for 8 days at a time. I use my sng and my gso 6 for food prep often, as many times it is all that I have.

I spend an awful lot of time away from home, and eat six meals a day, so I use my EDC (folders or fixed) for food preparation almost every single day. I sometimes carry a dedicated knife for food, usually something in a simple carbon steel because I love the way it stains with use.

At home I've got some Victorinox and Opinel kitchen knives that work quite well, although the steel is far from great, and they were cheap.

I use a wustof at home! Not my favorite, but it has its uses.

Henckels and wustof are perfect for the home, easy maintenence, has decent steel and hefty enough for almost any task

My Japanese chef knives are super light and super sharp, but require care and knowledge of use.

Are you including Global or Shun in your Japanese category?

Plus, I think no reason to spend money on the Henckels.

I've often used my JYDII to slice a sandwich or two at the office. At home I've used folders to open a bag or box but otherwise I'm using the proper tool, er, knife for the job. Picnics and what not, folder every time

Not really, but masamoto konosuke and yoshihiro. Never owned global, they're overrated.
